Just for fun: I do not have a shot in hell at any of the top 14, but if I did, I may not even apply to the U of Chicago. I don't know if it is the city, the location in the city, lack of sports, or what, but it just turns me off. I realize it is a great school, obviously all of the T14s are, but there is something that just irritates me about it.

Nothing personal. Anyone else?

I can confidently say I have NO interest in NONE of the T14 schools.

Northwestern. (work experience... if i'm getting in there without it then i'm surely getting into t6 anyways. also way too business major centric).

Berkley (not too big on the healing crystals and tibetan prayer flags. also, if i'm getting in there with my gpa then i'm definitely getting into some much better schools)

Kurama, why no NU and Cornell if I can ask?

I live close to Chicago and Im an avid Bulls fan so NU would be coo for me, and Cornell is an IVY so that has some appeal.

I guess I kind of think like "Hey these are the top schools" I should be interested in all of them.

except yale because they prbly have no interest in me

I came to this thread just to see how many people already said Cornell. I'm disappointed there hasn't been anyone who singled Cornell out yet.

CORNELL.

NU because of their WE requirement and overemphasis on a business type curriculum---it's really more of the latter though. They really go overboard with it in my opinion. Cornell is just in a pretty awful location in my opinion, they have the heaviest workload of any top 14 (16 graded hours), if you aren't interested in NYC their placement really is not any better than Texas or Vandy, their students study more than at almost any other law school, they have a graded LRW during their first year, their clinical program seems a bit weak to me compared to other top 14 schools, and their clerkship placement is worse than essentially every other top 14 school.

Columbia & NYU - didn't want to be in NYC, the life doesn't appeal to me at all

Standford & Berkley - too far away from family & SO on the east coast

Chicago & Northwestern - also too far away really

Duke hesitantly makes that list. I probably would have applied because I had a fee waiver, but it would have been a shock if I went, also too far away, too far south.

Damn, thanks for the breakdown. I hadnt really looked far enough into cornell yet. I saw somewhere that they study the most out of all LAW schools, you gotta have room for a social life and the graded LRW does add insult to injury. At least the cost of living is low

lol you're welcome. Sit down and really think about the bolded....they study more than ALL other law schools ( a very intense graduate school where your job prospects are based almost totally on your grades and studying). I will say that I do like their small class sizes. But to be honest the only reason I am even still remotely considering going there if accepted is because my GPA sucks and they are a top14 ivy league school.

Geez and I was just way out on it because of the weather (and I always perceived as fairly regional for a T14, although I didn’t have great support) ... now I really don't want to go.

Edit: Didn't mean to include NU, I sort of like the thought of them.

This. My friend went to Cornell for UG, HATED the school, city and students with a rapid passion. Said there was nothing but spoiled douchers and freezing weather. Then he turned into a spoiled doucher. Reason enough for me to steer clear.

Not that it means anything, but only t14s I'd be interested in would be cornell, berkeley, yale, harvard, uva, and maybe nu.

Harvard
Stanford
Columbia
NYU
Berkeley
Chicago
Penn
Michigan
Northwestern
Cornell
Georgetown

So basically, UVA and Duke are the only two I'm interested in.

Edit: I will add that like almost everyone, I have interest in Yale. However, Yale's only interest in me would be in increasing their selectivity index for the USNWR rankings and depositing my application fee into their bank account.

However, I'll be applying at Vanderbilt and Emory, as well. Those are both in the T20

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Georgetown had the worst biglaw placement of the T14.

UVA - rather not go to law school that potentially will mirror the experience I've had during undergrad (big party school)
Berkeley - no interest in CA

I'm not saying they have the worst big law placement out of all the top 14--just that if you aren't interested in NYC they really don't seem to be any better than Texas or Vandy. GULC seems to do pretty close to Cornell in NYC, and obviously does well in DC. At least there is some balance, and GULC does seem to do OK with clerkships. I will admit that some of it is probably self selection but I don't like how a lot of non NYC firms don't do OCI at Cornell but seem to find a way to Texas even though they are nowhere near Texas and closer to Cornell (ie Williams and Connolly). I also remember reading in the vault guide that it is hard to get a job in places like Cali from Cornell: and this was from actual excerpts by Cornell students before the economy tanked. Cornell is still a good school though.
