How does notre dame compare to the t14? I never hear it mentioned on the boards, I assume its got a little less prestige, but is it considered one of the top ones our of the t14? And how are career options afterwards?

I would assume it doesn't compare to the T14, since it isn't in the T14.

As someone who will be going to NDLS in the fall (got acceptance letter Monday), and as as someone who knows a lot about the law school, I can say that the alumni network is what distinguishes NDLS. In short, Notre Dame grads are found ALL OVER the place. Personally, I met an attorney in Portland, Oregon last summer who graduated in 2008, and I know alumns from 2009 who are working in Ohio and Washington, D.C. I know of another recent NDLS grad working in New York making $200k+.

Sure, Chicago is the best hiring market for NDLS grads, but you can pretty much pick the area you want to work in with an NDLS degree, especially if your grades are high (i.e. 3.40 cum laude or better). Notre Dame has near-100% name recognition, even among the average Joe, and this has obvious positive ramifications if you sport a degree from this institution.

So in respect to Notre Dame's name recognition and hiring prospects, it compares with T-14s even if T-14s will hire better nationally and with more of the top firms.

I really think that ND probably offers the most mobility of any t20-30 school, if you look at OCI stats as well as placement.

You may have to resort to network connections more so than a T-14, but hey nothing's wrong with that! I've heard a lot of ND grads who practice in DC and love it.

a friend of mine at ND says that the school was obliterated by ITE and very, very few students have a job lined up. he says something like 10% although there's no way of knowing how accurate that number is.

Is that just for big law? I have friends who are grads of NDLS and practice public interest in DC, they graduated last year top 40% of their class and got jobs in the public defenders office for DC.

Um, that's still pretty bleak though, right? I mean, they graduated above median in their class only to shove off and make 45k a year as a public defender in an expensive city. Hope they didn't take out any loans...
