Cities with best Quality of Life

Post by jms1987 » Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:22 pm

Just curious to see some thoughts on this, since many of us will live/work where we end up going to law school. I always hear Portland and Seattle being very high on the list...amyone care to elaborate? Poll options include cities I heard about being good, so sorry if yours was forgotten!

are we talking about quality vs cost of life? anywhere is pretty great if you are rich. i would rather be middle class is milwaukee than middle class in SF.

Can you reasonably expect more than a couple of people on TLS to have lived in enough of the aforementioned to cities so as to form a mildly educated opinion on each city's QoL? I've lived in San Fran and Philly. Prefer San Fran, but for all I know Portland and Chicago are better places to live. It'd probably be more useful to survey some other sourc that actually figures out a way to make some reasonable assessment of each of cities' QoL.

I'll take middle class in SF over millionaire in Mississppi.

EDIT: However, I do agree on the Milwaukee/SF choice.

Anyone who voted for Philadelphia's an assclown. The city's a dump.

Obviously, where you enjoy living varies from person to person. I think being rich in Mississippi sounds great. I know you're limited in how many choices you can give, but many of the cities on the poll get VERY cold. A lot of people would have a higher quality of life where the winters aren't so devastating. Austin seems great and depending on whether or not you like country music, Nashville gets pretty good marks. Eh?

Austin, TX is really the only credited response to this question. The city is clean, beautiful, fun, and not that expensive. Plus the nightlife is awesome.

If I were strongly considering a school in the 15-30 range UT would be at the top of my list.

Oh, and +1 to Philly. The city is sort of expensive, and not all that great. Doesn't make for great QOL... there's a reason why most of the nice Philly suburbs are actually in South Jersey.

i've never been there, but i tend to prefer cities with a bit of history even if they are dumps to really clean cities like phoenix that have no roots.

What if you hate hot weather?

Or snow/cold weather (for those Denver advocates).

Lawl @ baltimore
hahahaha I was making a point of cities left out, not necessarily good cities. Besides, I'd rather be in Baltimore than Philadelphia, but both are shitholes

Why isn't NY in here? If you get bored easily, it's the best place to be. Plus Central Park is really awesome all things considered, also the subway system is great. And I guess if diversity is important to you, it has people of every different race.

This clown obviously has no idea what he is talking about. The nicest suburbs of Philly are in the Main Line, where Villanova is. South Jersey is a giant McMansion-riddled wasteland.

Los Angeles/New York????

i know they're not ideal for school but .... they have law schools (even the shitty ones) that practically guarantee you a job post graduation.

Chicago:
Gorgeous seasons. Lake Michigan. Great Downtown. Cool areas to live like Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, Streeterville, Gold Coast, etc. Great sports town as far as we have all the sports you would want, not necessarily that we're great at all (or any) of them. Winters can be a little rough, but the summers are great. Not as expensive as LA or NYC but the salaries will be about the same so you get "more bang for your buck" if you will.
