Any idea what people pay for rent if they attend georgetown? Obviously, there is a range, but I have a good sense of the real estate market in New York and I'm trying to figure out the difference between the cost of living if I were to attend NYU as compared to Georgetown. Thanks.

I had a cheapskate friend who paid something like $400/mo to live in the ghetto (that apt. was seriously depressing).
I paid $700/mo my first two years for a small bedroom in a capital hill rowhouse.
I pay around $1k now for a master bedroom suite.

Most of my peers who are in the big luxury apt. complexes that seem to be all over the place here pay considerably more than that (1.5k or so for a studio).

NYC seems to be about 80-100% more for an equivalent place.

Gewirz (GULC's law student housing) ranges from $1100 for a 3BR/2BA efficiency triple to $1600 for a studio.

really I thought it was more than that? How shitty is living on capital hill compared to Gewirz? What do you recommend?

in general, if you're living in a decent area (chinatown, dupont, woodley, adams morgan, caphill):

living with others: 800-1100
living alone: 1200-1600

I had a lot more space than if I had lived in Gewirz. Frankly, the only reason to do it is for social exposure. I don't think you are even eligible after 1L year unless you are an RA.

I personally recommend cap hill. Dupont/Adams Morgan is kind of far and mucho $$$ by comparison.

Is the convenience of Gewirz worth it for your first year considering the price of rent?

If you can't find any of the bourgeois areas in the price range you want, there's always Anacostia.
