I am currently a research coordinator at a Law & Economics think tank. I find it hard to find people interested in that field. Lawyers do not like the quantitative apsect of it and it is not one of the sexy areas of economic research. I would like try to start up a group of economists and lawyers who are aspiring to do this type of work. I am reaching out to people that want to do graduate work in economics. However, we also need people interested in the legal research as well. Post a message here and we will go from there.

This is the field I want to pursue. Although the school Suffolk is poorly ranked I'm interested in applying because they have a JD/ Masters of science in Economics. If I dont pursue graduate work in econ, Im sure my law electives will be things like "Law and Economics" and "Antitrust".

Hi,

I am interesed in law and Economics too. I have a Ph.D in economics, and my field is industrial organization, more specifically antitrust.

I am taking LSAT in December, wish me luck..

Besides T14,GMU and Vanderbilt, what other schools have good law and economics program?

Good luck everyone.

This is why I'm going to LS in large part - I've been focusing on the economy for years as a writer/commentator, etc. I'm applying especially to places with these progs (GMU, UCLA, some T14). I didn't know Vandy had a good law/econ program?

I should admit I dont know if they have a good program, all I know is that they have dual JD/PhD program and they are putting alot of emphasis on Law and Economics. Sorry for the confusion..

It would be hard to quit a full time job and be a student again.. Well, I try not to think about it until LSAT is over.

finishing my BS in econ right now... of course, GMU is probably my top choice since vandy is likely out of reach. its seems silly that so few schools offer a JD/MA in econ.

Hi,

I'm interested in Law and Economics, as well. I am applying to law schools this fall and will apply for Econ grad programs next fall to pursue a JD/PhD in Economics joint degree.

I delayed applying to Econ programs to next year because I'm missing a few math classes and I don't want to apply before I feel confident about my apps. So, my plan is to take a few more math classes and graduate-level econ classes prior to entering law school and apply in fall 2010.

On the other hand, I'm applying to law schools this year because I feel pretty okay about my law school apps. I've got the LSAT, GPA, PS, DS, LORs all set to go.

My fields of interest are development economics, human capital development through legal empowerment, and economics of education. I'm interested in behavioral economics as well but I don't know much about it to opine anything on it.

I've been doing some research myself, and felt that there's a serious dearth of information for JD/PhD Econ hopefuls. I'd like to see some active information sharing in this forum! :)

My approach is a little different. I'm looking at grad schools that offer international economic relations programs that can be combined with JD programs. I'm mostly interested in policy and research.

That would have been awesome to know before I went to college, lol. I'm finishing my BA in Poli Sci next month, and then I'm taking pre-reqs (econ, stats) at a community college next spring. It would have been nice to know that I wanted to go into this field when I started working on my degree.

Would you guys like to start a listserv? I don't know many people who want to be in the intersection of law and economics.

Is it possible to do a Masters in Econ/JD with a Poli Sci undergrad?

I find it interesting, although I'm interested in law and economic sociology. I'd like to get a masters/phd in the latter at some point. Currently work at a last-chance shelter, planning to attend law school in the next year or two.

I am absolutely fascinated with law and economics. I am applying throughout the t14, and have a preference for schools with well-established law and economics programs.

It is possible, but you need a good understanding of Economics and a VERY strong background in math.

I can answer a lot of these questions. For those that want to do the listserv, e-mail me at mdsibery@u.northwestern.edu and I will start finding ways to make it happen.
