To those attending next year, you should totally and try to make it to the Great Taste of the Midwest beer festival on August 8:

The Great Taste is, to our knowledge, the second longest-running craft beer festival in North America. This year, we expect 105+ breweries/brewpubs to be serving about 500 different beers right here in Madison, Wisconsin (Beer Capital of the Midwest!) in a beautiful lakeside setting with a view of the state capitol, with great food for sale, space to spread out on the grass in sun or shade to enjoy the beers and music, and with a celebrity brewer dunk tank for charity. Each brewery brings atleast 3 different beers if not up to 7. You get a nice 8 ounce tasting glass and just go around to drink all day!

fail. and madison (socially, aesthetically, beer-wise) is way overrated. milwaukee takes all the best parts of madison and eliminates the unwarranted pretension. on the plus side, the law school will give you plenty of opportunities to work in that great city.

Umm...Great Taste of the Midwest? The oldest and best beer festival in the US? You've obviously never been...100 breweries, 500 beers, and it sells out within hours.

1. I never said UW is the 3rd best school in the midwest...I'd say it varies between 4/5/6, depending on what you want to do.

2. Trust me, you can get tickets to the festival...just look for scalpers. Granted, some of us will be in there an hour before it starts

Having been an undergrad there and knowing law students/grad students and such, I have the perfect UW-Madison analogy.

UW-Madison is like the Acura of schools, people who own them swear its a Lexus but everyone else knows its a Honda.

Madison is an overrated shithole. You will be bored to death if you go to Wisconsin (not to mention frozen in the winter and bug-bitten when the lake thaws out). But, if you enjoy being harassed by homeless asking for change, then you would feel right at home walking down State Street in Madison.

wisconsin is THE shit. the home of the smart, well-rounded kid who doesn't want to wear button downs to class every day. work hard play hard. down to earth, good people. best four years of my life, law school there is no different.

I also went to UW for undergrad. I loved living in Madison. There is also more to do than drinking, though it does have a great bar scene. There is a lot of live music, theatre, film festival in the summer. It's also close enough to go to Chicago on the weekends, or up north to go hiking or camping.

Cost of living is pretty good. I only payed 280 my senior year, and shared with 3 girls only about 5 blocks from the school. You can live downtown for under 600. You don't need a car, you get a bus pass, and everything downtown is walking distance.

The campus is gorgeous especially in the spring. The winters are harsh, but I think can be really fun.

There are homeless people, like in any city, especially in the downtown area. Politics in Madison are really interesting. Obviously mostly liberal, but a large socialist population keeps things even more interesting, and the conservative sect is loud and proud.

There are a number or great free events through the year, including speakers, concerts, symposiums etc.

I miss Madison greatly.

NOT ONLY are there homeless people, but we love them. My favorite part of every fall is seeing freshmen gawk at Piccolo man in library mall or watching scanner dan terrorize new victims at einstein's bagels.

However it's not necessarily true, and he looks like a fool in pulling out the same old one-trick rabbit from his hat. My guess is that it makes him feel better thinking he got in while somebody else who bashes his precious school was dinged, which is mildly amusing. First off it makes for an interesting insight into his psyche. Secondly, his acceptance of tenuous assumptions without any substantial evidence other than his own preconceptions makes me chuckle to think what kind of attorney he'll make some years down the road. Hopefully Cheese-U will be able to train him out of that.

When one user creates several alts to bash Wisconsin, yeah, it's lame. And yes, I will continue to repeat what I said, because continually bashing a school just because they rejected you is obnoxious and pathetic. I was rejected from a bunch of schools and haven't really bashed any of them.

I'm not going to act like an elitist because I got into a school that someone else didn't, especially considering the fact that it's a school that isn't elite. But still, if you got rejected and then feel the need to just keep creating new alts JUST to bash this one school with total BS...yeah, I'm going to throw it back in their face.
