What has not been said here is that you XOXO members sent one of your own after the rankings--so obviously you care. I guarantee if one of you had posted the rankings, you'd be saying that TLS sucks. Don't be bitter because XOXO has become the bottom-feeder of the law school forums. That is all.

i hope this post doesn't get deleted or i get banned for expressing my opinion on the topic....

matlock, kimber, etc....setting aside for a second how lame it is to even give a crap about the relative prestige of the discussion board you post on....

i don't see how you think TLS came out as some sort of winner here. who's the winner? the posters frantically asking opera to post the 3rd and 4th tier rankings? the guy freaking out cause buffalo moved up to 85!!!! the girl celebrating cause LSU moved up to 75!!! or all the posters in this thread who i made flip out because of the "race" i was in while i sat in my living room laughing at you guys for freaking out?

the sad thing is, XO isn't your enemy - TLS is. this is the only thread i've read on TLS, but at least in this thread you guys seem to worship this guy "Ken" - i don't know if he owns the site or he's a mod or what. but either way, this guy is your real enemy. he's not an idiot, he knows he's giving you guys terrible advice. someone on XO the other day linked to a Ken post where he bragged that he "wonders if his negative profile of Mercer was the main reason they dropped" from #97 to #100 or something like that. if you went to XO and you created a thread asking for advice on whether you should go to Mercer versus some other 3rd tier school, you'd get mocked mercilessly. but if you listened to the advice, you'd save yourself from putting yourself 200K in debt for an essentially worthless degree. but when you come here this hack Ken helps trick you guys into making the biggest mistake of your life. Ken, you went to a good law school - be honest, if it were you, would you listen to the advice you give? if you have kids, would you let your kids make the mistakes you help these posters make? anyway, Ken probably uses phrases like "strong regional placement" and "good fit" to describe schools that prey on people like the posters in this thread, while XO posters would say things like "TTT" or "OP, kill self before you go to either of those schools" or "sorry about your tiny pink LSAT score." so you get confused by tone and you worship Ken even though he doesn't have your best interests at heart.

And Ken, i have nothing against you dood. your job is to increase traffic to the site, and you're just doing your job. if you had a conscience, you'd probably tell most of the posters here that they shouldn't consider going to the law schools they are considering for the prices they are paying. but instead you write profiles of schools trying to help posters decide between X tier 3 school and Y tier 3 school. you pay posters $100 to see which school moved from 81 to 77, even while you admit in other posts that whatever small changes in the rankings are meaningless - then post over and over again about how great it is that TLS was the first discussion board to leak it, not even trying to hide your motives. but whatever, your job is to get more people to the site and it's not your fault that your job description consists of taking advantage of these naive kids.

Dear Mr. Juggernaut,

When trying to convert people to your way of thinking through the written word it goes against your interest to use the phrase "dude." But to change it to dood, well, that just makes me stop reading a "serious" post.

Sincerely,
Do you even care? Get off our site.

i've never seen ken give people misleading advice about school/career choices - the thing he doesn't do is adopt the cynical, self-loathing tone that became the norm for a long time over on xo (honestly i think your site is better than it used to be a year ago, but it still leaves something to be desired...racist and homophobic comments really should be moderated)

there are PLENTY of people on here who give people solid advice about their options coming out of a non-t14 - we've got our share of elitist pricks - but we've also got really civil people who try to deliver good INFORMATION in a civil tone - there's nothing wrong with that - in fact, it's why this site gets more traffic - it's not because people around here are living in a fantasy world (particularly the established posters, like mods, and the long-timers)

in conclusion, if you think good "advice" needs to be cloaked in cynicism, bitchiness, foul language, and racist/sexist commentary, i'd say you're misguided (not that i don't have my own share of cynicism, as anyone around here will tell you)

[oh, and don't worry about "censorship" - my quote ensures that your narrowly construed view of things will live on]

I don't know what you are going on about.

Ken's post about Mercer was funny, he has a sense of humor. Something you seem to lack. Also, although your comments don't warrant response, Ken has never given out "bad" advice. If people are choosing between two T3s he might not say, "don't go to either you are screwed!!!" - because each person's individual motivations are different. I think that's called respect. That's what might be missing from your site, the decency to offer respect to members.

Just FYI, a poll showed that ~50% of TLS was T14-bound, and I'd like to think most everyone else knows what they're getting into, isn't going for BigLaw, and/or is taking the $$$$.

I haven't seen many pieces of evidence of Ken encouraging people to go to low ranked schools. He is someone who convinced me to stay in UG for an extra year to raise my GPA/LSAT and go T14.

Ken is not really on here enough to have a substantial impact on newer users' choices. TLS has grown to the point where, like on xoxo, a poster with delusions of grandeur about working for the UN, BigLaw, etc. from a non-T14 school is quickly put in their place. "T14 or bust" is pretty much the reigning mentality.

What's even funnier is him telling us it all doesn't matter. (Well, to a degree he may have a point there  ) But just look at the posting at XXOO right now. The threads with activity are the threads that deal with the rankings that we (OperaSoprano) graciously gave you.

So instead of a rant, how about a simple, "Thank you". (Seriously, you should read the sight here. You may actually learn a thing or two.)

Now run along. Us naive kids have important internet business to attend to.

dantim - i'm sorry you stopped reading at "dood" but it wasn't til the last paragraph, so thank you for at least reading up until then

veritas and doyle - i understand what you're saying, and of course all else equal i'd prefer the discourse to be civil, but i think you're missing my point. when you say "ken is giving good advice, he just doesn't need to be rude about it" you're missing the main point - his advice is actually very very bad. he's contributing to a situation where tens of thousands of law students every year are attending these schools and putting themselves 150K or more in debt with very bad job prospects. i don't care how nice he seems while he's doing it, he's giving you bad advice.

to explain in a way that might be more clear, my preferences would be 1) good advice given in a friendly manner, 2) good advice given rudely (XO), 3) horrible, life-ruining advice given in a friendly manner (TLS), 4) horrible, life ruining advice given in a rude manner

and for what it's worth, i faithfully espouse the doctrines of the kindness club, a group of XOers who are generally very friendly to each other and others on the board. and i agree XO would be better without all the disgusting racist crap, etc. the only time i take a break from being friendly on XO is to attack people like rudolph, a poster who yesterday accused anyone he didn't agree with of being asian, which i found highly offensive because he was implying there was something wrong with being asian. on a side note, it seems like a lot of TLS posters read XO so you may be familiar with the poster rudolph - do you guys agree he is the worst poster to ever post on XO?

Sigh, there are plenty of posts if you actually read through this board where we make it very clear that investment in a lot of schools is either a bad move, or a good move only if you have very specific career goals and realistic expectations (or, say, if you get a full ride sometimes). We just do it without being insulting. You admitted to not reading much of the site...

Also, for what it's worth, I think we've established that something like 30% of the Yale waitlist is on this site posting... a significant chunk of the people here really are looking at the very top schools, we just dont feel like we need to shoot down people looking at other schools (even if realistic advice is provided).

Sorry to feed this theme, let's move on, back to the fact that this Opera adventure was still hilarious.

PS- Ken started the site, and has been unbelievably responsive to peoples suggestions for it, which I think makes him very well loved. I don't think that the profiles of lower tier schools are especially rosy, or rosier than they should be, if you take the time to read them.

veritas and doyle - i understand what you're saying, and of course all else equal i'd prefer the discourse to be civil, but i think you're missing my point. when you say "ken is giving good advice, he just doesn't need to be rude about it" you're missing the main point - his advice is actually very very bad. he's contributing to a situation where tens of thousands of law students every year are attending these schools and putting themselves 150K or more in debt with very bad job prospects. i don't care how nice he seems while he's doing it, he's giving you bad advice.

to explain in a way that might be more clear, my preferences would be 1) good advice given in a friendly manner, 2) good advice given rudely (XO), 3) horrible, life-ruining advice given in a friendly manner (TLS), 4) horrible, life ruining advice given in a rude manner

I've never seen anyone ever on TLS ever suggest going 150k in debt at anything but T1. Where are you getting these facts?

Especially when his misguided opinion follows "this is the only thread I've read on TLS."

I also don't think that many people even read or pay much attention to the school profiles...

I think people on this site are typically very realistic with their advice and blunt about it, without being rude. If you and other members of XO give good advice, I'm sure TLS would be better off if you could come over to this site to give your perspective and advice, as long as its cordial and friendly. Thats all we ask for at TLS. But I think you are wrong in suggesting people giving a lot of faulty advice.

Edit: I also think the most frequent advice I hear given on TLS is to retake the LSAT if at all possible. That is not painting a rosy picture of law school and the job market, IMO

There are plenty of people on TLS who are rude about their advice also.

But you are a moron for basing your whole opinion of Ken and TLS on one thread which was full of silly anticipation at ridiculous hours of the morning. If we were to come over to your thread and start bashing it because of one thread wouldn't that seem stupid and immature?

I'm getting this thread on track now by trying to pass a few motions.

Motion one: no one pays any attention to this troll

Motion two: OS should be a mod.

Any seconds?
