Attend or Retake

Postby cuezze113 » Sat Mar 18, 2017 3:20 pm

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some insight on my situation. Debating between sitting out the cycle and retaking in December or enrolling for this fall semester. All help is appreciated.

The schools you are considering:
SMU - Total COA - $170,000; $24k/year scholarship, waiting to hear back on the reconsideration request I sent.
UMKC - Total COA - $105,000; $12k/year scholarship; resident tuition
I will be financing the COA myself. I won't have to take out a loan for either school so there won't be any interest accumulated or debt repayment.

I am from Kansas City and have pretty strong ties here. I'm not dead set on where I want to practice and am pretty much open to anywhere.

I want to get my start in Biglaw.

LSAT is a 161; GPA is 3.6; I am eligible to take the LSAT one more time. Seems to me that retaking the LSAT is probably the best bet but just want to make sure I'm not missing something in regards to possibly transferring or anything I've overlooked. Appreciate the help.

If you want big law, suggest retake.

Your stats are great but seeing as the cycle is over you probably need to at least reapply(retake won't do no harm if you're already taking a year off).

Why do you feel the need to go around trolling?

You seem open to retaking so go ahead and give it a go. Were you scoring higher on practice tests? If so, go for it.

A year off can help make you a better applicant.

I appreciate it but unfortunately I wouldn't say great either. I'm open to retaking and was scoring significantly higher on my practice tests so I'm going to go ahead and skip the cycle and retake. Thanks for the advice.

Good call. Knock the LSAT out of the park. Good luck!

Absolutely the right choice. Best of luck, you definitely got this!
