Are you only considering schools with "George" or "Washington" in the name?DogSitting wrote:George Mason just offered me a scholarship!!! My tuition would only be $5k a year....

W&L 100%.
Even if it were GULC at sticker and William and Mary with your W&L scholarship, I would still tell you to avoid paying full price.
GW is a great school but definitely not worth putting yourself $300,000+ in debt upon graduation.

10K for DC will likely mean living outside the city with a commute and multiple roommates fyiDogSitting wrote:Thanks. I actually had looked up the cost of attendance of Washington and Lee previously. A decent legal education that will enable me to graduate with a less than $100k still seems like a great option. Especially with how solid the Washington and Lee alumni network is in the D.C. area. The thing about cost of attendance is that you have a lot of wiggle room in keeping costs down. George Washington for instance calculates $1,900 a month for rooming based on their on-campus rates. However, you can easily and assuredly find a place for much cheaper than that, potentially knocking out as much as $10k a year in expenses.

I move that the OP to check back in after OCI at W&L to let everyone know about his awesome biglaw SA.

Not everyone goes to law school looking to do Biglaw.cavalier1138 wrote:I move that the OP to check back in after OCI at W&L to let everyone know about his awesome biglaw SA.
If OP want's to do Biglaw, then I'll agree with you 100%

This OP has skirted the issue, but the repeated references to how it can't just be the T14 that gets people biglaw jobs and the "good salary" talk makes it pretty clear what their goals are.Thomas Hagan, ESQ. wrote:Not everyone goes to law school looking to do Biglaw.cavalier1138 wrote:I move that the OP to check back in after OCI at W&L to let everyone know about his awesome biglaw SA.

To echo what someone else said, you should apply to UIUC. With a 168 you would almost certainly get a full ride and have a way better shot at big law in Chicago than you would DC big law from W&L and Chicago is a city you listed. At the very least it would be good leverage for getting additional money from other schools. For having 5 years to plan, your applications seem kind of haphazard.

Re: George Washington v. Washington and Lee
this is the second best advice you have received in this thread (behind retake). Since you're not retaking, you should apply to Illinois immediately. It will give you a better chance at biglaw than either w&l or george mason and will be as cheap or cheaper than mason.trebekismyhero wrote:To echo what someone else said, you should apply to UIUC. People are obsessed with BigLaw here. Lol. I mentioned I would at least like the possibility of competing for a BigLaw job and people jumped on that. There are plenty of jobs that offer good salaries without being BigLaw. I'm just not so interested in public service type jobs necessarily.Thomas Hagan, ESQ. wrote:Not everyone goes to law school looking to do Biglaw.cavalier1138 wrote:I move that the OP to check back in after OCI at W&L to let everyone know about his awesome biglaw SA.

My big pull towards George Mason now that I've been offered such a big scholarship is the ability to network a bit while in school and also the fact I would have an absurd burden of debt upon graduation. I've definitely switched my gears toward George Mason now because of their offer. They have solid employment statistics and it seems like hard work can get you a decent job from here.
Thanks for your level minded input! I really appreciate hearing that

But you've given the same advice that you call "crappy" to other people in this forum. Why is it crappy for you but good for them?DogSitting wrote:I love how you still think I might listen to your crappy advice

Just trolling at that point to prove how crappy such advice is.

For the benefit of others (since you're clearly only reading the posts that seem to fall in line with your insane worldview): this is not how it works. You can work as hard as you like at George Mason, but if you don't have the grades or connections, you won't get that decent job (at least not by your standards of getting a job with a good salary).DogSitting wrote:...it seems like hard work can get you a decent job from here.

1) has someone linked the trap school article yet?
2) stop complaining after opening yourself up.
3) rigo is very correct about WUSTL

Re: George Washington v. Washington and Lee
That sounds reasonable in theory, but then when you consider the bimodal nature of legal hiring, it's not particularly likely from anywhere. Hopefully this NALP related data gives you pause, because it should. There are peaks at $160k (presumably will be at $180k for the next classes with last summer's bump), and ~$45k which are likely public defenders, small firms, etc. This is The Nature of the Legal Profession, and that's why you should look at the employment numbers of a given school through that lens, meaning Biglaw will get you significantly more than your goal of $70k, while other work like small firm, government, etc. will likely be closer to that $45k peak. This is our reality.DogSitting wrote:$70k would bring contentment. Hahatimbs4339 wrote:What do you mean by good salary?
