Michigan or Chicago?
Hey guys - I know I made one of these a week or so ago but over the weekend I got pulled from 2 WLs. I'm leaning pretty heavily one way, but wanted to see what everyone thought.
-The schools you are considering: Chicago/Michigan
-COA: Michigan: 179k (45k scholly) ; Chicago: 198k (45k scholly)
-Financed: Loans through family and savings
-Work & ties: I'd love to work M&A or PE in Chicago. I'm from here, families from here, etc.
Thanks everyone.

Vandy/WUSTL basically. I forget COA but WUSTL was a 105k scholly and Vandy was also a 45k scholly.OhBoyOhBortles wrote:Don't feel like going through your posts; what are the other options?

I think Chicago is a no-brainer here.

Also Vandy gave you the same amount as Chicago? You should be able to leverage that into fulls at Vandy and WUSTL pretty easily I think, and I also think you could probably get more at Michigan.

Chicago easily. Shitload of debt, but other options are worse. Chicago has way better employment numbers than Michigan. Their gov/clerking/biglaw is over 70%. Add in the other appx. 5-10% that do PI, and you're looking at great job prospects w/ a Chicago degree.

Re: Michigan or Chicago?

Re: Michigan or Chicago?
I mean, Chicago over Michigan, yeah. You'll also probably get the job you want.
But, I have a hard time convincing myself that that outcome is worth 200K debt
I know this is a #zuckpost but honestly I think retake>don't go>Chicago for 200K.
If it's one of those family "loans" with a wink, wink you don't actually have to pay all/most/any of it back then I would #embracetherigor

That really is a ton of debt for Chicago. But I can't blame you, honestly.
Good luck!

Re: Michigan or Chicago?
What are your numbers?
I feel as if you either applied late, or have a high GPA low LSAT since you got into chicago without large scholarships from the lower T14.
If the former, taking a year off could be worth tens of thousands of dollar. If the later, retaking could mean a full ride + stipend at chicago or atleast full rides at other t14s.
200k is a fuckton of money.

Between the two, Chicago is the better choice due to its location in your target market & due to superior placement stats.

But, if there is any possible way you could retake, you should. 3.92/166 just screams retake.

Re: Michigan or Chicago?
Yeah seriously, they already like you at Chicago. Retake and get a 50%+ scholly. Difference between 166 and 170 is just effort for most people. Put the work in and profit.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
