NU. Saying, "but it's Haaaaarvuhd!" is not really an argument. A 6% difference in biglaw/fedclerk is not worth 165k. Not even close. And yes, I'm aware that bl/fc is not a perfect measurement but it seems like a reasonable measure of desirable outcomes, especially considering that in this case the difference in overall JD required employment also has about a 7% difference or something like that.

Definitely NW. 165K is a TON of money, and that's before you factor in the interest that will accrue, the manner in which it will affect your lifestyle and career flexibility, etc. Almost any practicing lawyer will advise you to take NW with that kind of price difference. You haven't said anything at all that would lead any rational observer to say "well, the additional cost may be justified in your circumstances"

According to LST, if you borrow the max amount for Harvard at full tuition, and then go on a 10 year repayment plan you will pay $3,457 per month. That number is completely and utterly absurd. To come out ahead financially you're going to have to have an unusually lucrative career - probably making equity partner. Is there any reason to believe that Harvard is going to make it that much more likely that you become an equity partner? Is there any reason to believe that you even want a 20 or 30 year career in biglaw.

It is terrifying how little you get it. I truly don't mean to come off like a dick, but try and figure it out before you apply for schools.

Its not so much about whether you can manage money, but that you'll likely be about 200K behind where you would be the rest of your life based on this decision. How many people can say that amount at any point in life becomes negligible?

While you're managing that debt so well, the Northwestern kid with the huge scholarship is managing his investments and soon, his mortgage. He's 5-10 years ahead of you, permanently.
