What kind of PhD is your wife getting? To my knowledge most science PhD's require a postdoc after, meaning she won't be making shit until shes in her mid 30's.

They gave me a generous 15k/yr with a 4.0 stip, but after intense negotiations I was able to lower the stip to 3.99.

How does someone with only a 3.9 and 169 get a Dillard and a Darrow?

How does the marginal value of the extra money to you distributed evenly over 10 or so years compare to the marginal value of the increased opportunities (clerkship, academia, and otherwise) compare for you? My sense is that you have a pretty good idea of those two values. Now it's your job to weigh them.

Unsurprisingly, in the debt-averse context of TLS, most people are voting for NW. I personally would probably choose UChicago. As I have laid out in greater detail in other posts, I have found that once i have a certain amount of disposable income, extra just doesn't do much for my happiness (incidentally, there are a couple studies that seem to indicate that that's probably the majority position nationally). You're going to be in a strong financIal position either way. So for me, I'd probably give up the additional luxuries one gets past that point (that I only appreciate so much) and instead gamble on maximizing my potential for "unicorn" outcomes.

Regardless, though, you have two very good options and really can't make a bad choice. Congrats!

This isn't 2010. Those numbers are above both medians at both of those schools.
