NYU$$$$ v CLS$ v HLS
Hi TLS,
I've found myself in a really great position with plenty of good options, but the decision will be tough. I'm hoping you all in your sage wisdom can help me gain some perspective.
I have been offered a full ride at NYU and expect some merit aid from Columbia. I am weighing these against paying sticker at Harvard. I will be paying for law school with a loan from my parents at 0% interest, and will definitely be paying the money back.
My goal is to practice real estate and land use law in New York, and I would like to transition later in my career into state politics or the bench. I am from Buffalo, NY, but live now in NYC. I can see myself being in either city after graduation, but Buffalo salaries cannot service debt as well as an NYC biglaw salary. I know I will spend the rest of my life somewhere in New York.
3.98/173(1 take)
What would you choose in my position? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Re: NYU$$$$ v CLS$ v HLS
If you don't get a full ride from CLS, no reason to take it over NYU.
Considering you want to be a New York lawyer and want to do careers that may not pay all that much, I see no reason to take HLS at sticker over NYU.
However, I don't know anyone at NYU targeting not NYC parts of NY so i'm not sure quite how far it gets you compared to HLS if you are 100% set on Buffalo. Since you aren't, I'd take NYU.

Thanks, all. That is kind of what I was hoping to hear. I'm feeling rather debt-averse.

NYU, although that decision becomes trickier if you get more than expected from C, in my opinion. Especially at a 0% rate.

I feel like NYU is such a staggeringly obvious choice here that anyone suggesting otherwise should have to provide reasons. DF rules.aad993 wrote:maybe make a poll?

Retake.
But seriously, NYU unless Columbia throws you a Hamilton.

Probably wait and see what the USNWR rankings say, hard to advise you without knowing if you're talking about a T5 or a T6 school here.

Always tempting to bandy about the name "Harvard" on your resume, but I know people who paid near sticker at Harvard who can't stand Biglaw and just wish their debt was gone.
NYU for free is a really cool option.
