Correlates well with the law schools that place the best in large law firms.

I mean, that's exactly what it's supposed to measure. The top 50 schools are the schools that send the most associates to large law firms, so yes, it correlates exactly.

There are still at least two other candidates

And I wouldn't write yourself off just yet, you might have been the only one NOT getting whooshed.

That's why this one is so tough to figure out. Lots of layers

I was just confirming that the rankings have some validity. I am understandably distrustful of rankings in general.

Here's the link to the list with all of the relevant statistics and such. Not sure if this is a paid site that I am seeing via my law firm or not, but here goes:

Agreed, and, in a way, it's straightfoward and not misleading. In a publication aimed at larger law firms, it is telling said firms 'here is where you all, or at least the top 250 of you all, have been going to get your young talent.' It doesn't hold itself our to be a comprehensive ranking, just a run down of the percentage of a school's grads going to the biggest private employers. Take it for what it is.

There's nothing to agree with. I'm just saying it's pretty spergy to comment "this tracks biglaw placement well" when it's literally a sorting of biglaw placement.

That depends on how you define big law. The biggest 250 firms is kind of an arbitrary cutoff.

Also, it doesn't take into consideration federal clerskhips, a significant chunk of whom will go into firm afterwards. These rankings understate the actual big law placement of pretty much every school, but particularly those with significant A3 clerkship placement (Yale, Stanford, etc.) and those that place a disproportionate number of students into secondary markets with a number of "big firms" that fall outside the top 250.

These rankings are horribly unfair to U.Chicago we would be #1 using a more appropriate metric.
