Is Georgetown really that stingy?
Hey TLS.
So I know there have been a couple of threads discussing hate for GULC before. I know the stats- less than awesome LST scores, ranked 16th on the ATL rankings, the talk about T13.
But I wanted to ask specifically about scholarships, since I think sticker there is crazy. Are there really that stingy? Is there data to back that up? Are they splitter unfriendly?
Thanks!

Right. I did see on the Spivey blog
http://spiveyconsulting.com/blog/lsat-c ... w-schools/
That they have lost the most LSAT points out of any T14 school. I wonder if they just aren't playing the scholarship game as well as everyone else.

I think they'll pay for LSAT scores, and they responded pretty competitively when I let them know the other scholarship offers I was looking at

You can compare scholarship numbers between schools by looking up their 509 disclosure forms. Google ABA 509 disclosure and it will take you to the ABA site where they're all available. Last year 63.1% of GULC students paid sticker, and 11% had scholarships equal to half tuition or more. Those are bad numbers relative to the typical law school although I haven't checked specifically how they stack up against other high-ranked schools.

it's not any big secret. look at the 509s.Finnpower wrote:Hey TLS.

Only 37% of students get a scholarship. Only 11% have a half-ride or greater. One student has a full ride. Of the students that got scholarships, the median amount was 20K per year.
Tuition is gonna be 54K and it's in one of the most expensive cities in the country.
That's not very good.
ETA: scooped.

At ~$65 million a year in tuition, it's great for GULC.Ron Don Volante wrote:it's not any big secret. look at the 509s.Finnpower wrote:Hey TLS.

Do the 509s include merit aid?

I mean what else would they include? who gives out need-based aid outside of HYS?justonemoregame wrote:Do the 509s include merit aid?

Oops, meant to type "need based" -- I got a huge chunk that way, like Wustl monopoly money, and I seem to remember several people posting about merit aid bumps back when I applied.

IIRC GULC doesn't even offer full rides. I'm guessing that person is either lying or is combining a scholarship with some kind of outside aid like the GI Bill.Ron Don Volante wrote:One student has a full ride.

It's reported by the school actually.TheSpanishMain wrote:IIRC GULC doesn't even offer full rides. I'm guessing that person is either lying or is combining a scholarship with some kind of outside aid like the GI Bill.Ron Don Volante wrote:One student has a full ride.
Gotcha. I assume it is included b/c the 509 simply says "grants" and the heading says "scholarships and grants"justonemoregame wrote:Oops, meant to type "need based" -- I got a huge chunk that way, like Wustl monopoly money, and I seem to remember several people posting about merit aid bumps back when I applied.
