The only time I've been to the Midwest was when I interviewed at NU a year and a half ago when I was held.

Do I have to prove that I've got ties?

Eh I'm pretty open-minded. I'm just looking for a good legal job and I'll work anywhere.

Define good legal job.

$50-$60k per year at least (preferably $70k), not working backbreaking hours.

you should probably at least visit before committing multiple years of your life to a region, no?

OK, outing where I'm from, but actual Coloradans don't consider themselves the 'Southwest'. We just happen to be north of that.

Additionally, if you go to CU, be aware the CO legal market is notoriously difficult to get into, especially if you can't walk the natives' walk (that is, you don't have ties and everyone thinks you're just here to ski). And if you couldn't break in to Denver/Boulder, you'd probably end up someplace small fry that you might or might not feel like spending the rest of your life (actually, now I'm wondering how many CU grads end up north of the border in Wyo, or trapped in KS).

All right, I'm done now.

FWIW Colorado is an awesome place to live. Considering your career goals, I think that's attainable in the Denver market. Denver values work life balance in general so I think you'd like that.

Can't really say anything about Iowa though because im not familiar.

I think this is understandable, but id add that attending CU will be a stronger tie to get into the Colorado market than going to Iowa then trying for a Denver job. You'd just have to network and put your best efforts into school. Cracking the Denver market is not impossible, especially if you attend CU (or DU) and spend some time networking.

Defs true, it's 100% a CU/DU game. I just wanted to point out that even with that, it can be an insular market and it might make things more difficult if you can't actually articulate any reasons for going to CU other than "it sounded pretty" or "I want to smoke all the pot".

Of course, it sounds like that's going to be an issue no matter which school dude picks, soooo.

Agreed. I think it's probs CU/DU+Native>CU/DU+Non-Native.

But woohoo glad to see other CO TLSers.

COA for Iowa: Maybe nothing if I can win some online poker tourneys, but assuming I don't, let's call it $20k for living expenses after we factor in the savings money I use to cover my first year living expenses.

COA for Colorado: $60k + living expenses and we'll call those $30k since CO is supposedly an expensive place to live.

Is Colorado worth $90k more than Iowa? Well most people who go to CU assume some kind of debt right? They're very stingy with scholarship money so I'll be in the same boat as the great majority of people who go there.

Of the two, Iowa is the right call.

Either. Take your col loans and go to Vegas the first week of each semester. If it's cool, I'll roll with

You sure about this? People on here told me to stop gambling. Well that means Colorado looks like the choice now.

Brutal night on the online poker circuit. Absolutely brutal.

Does Iowa have normal things or is it stuck in the 1920's?

Talk about bad luck! Well I lost $700 this weekend playing poker.

I'm done for a while with that.

Anyway, I made a decision- Iowa it is! Can't wait to start law school! Thanks, everyone. It saddens me because I feel Colorado would be great for me, but I just can't turn down a full ride in a low cost of living area at a school whose students are very successful finding good legal jobs. If I get into a T14 I might reconsider just because of the LRAPs.

I'm just going to try my best to get really good grades and hopefully get a job at a good firm! :P

OP, I'm currently an undergrad at Iowa, attending WUSTL next year for law school. If you have any questions about the city, housing, etc, feel free to ask
