No. You need Sin City. You could even hit up the small-deck shoes in your free time.

I applied to Pitt during my last year of college and they were a little bit stingy with scholarship money. I got about a 2/3 ride if I recall, but I'd clearly need a full ride to consider a T2 like Pitt.

It might sound really misguided/immature, but casino locations have actually been a consideration for me. I was planning to apply to St. John's just because World Resorts Casino is a subway ride away, but I've been to World Resorts and they still don't have a poker room, which is really frustrating, and I'm definitely not going to play chance games like roulette, blackjack, and the slot machines. The object is to win, bro! :)

there's no train that goes from st johns to world resorts
st johns isn't even near a subway stop actually, it's a hike
that's not a great area anyways, i used to live in briarwood/jamaica

brooklyn law is probably easiest in terms of getting there, followed by nyu
cuny in flushing would have been quasi-doable b/c resorts world charters buses there, but they moved to long island city

Go to Iowa bro! I will scoop you for a trip to Vegas after 1l finals! Hopefully, if we win big enough, we never have to go back!

Hmmm I'm misinformed on that end. I assumed they would have built some sort of line to make it convenient for area college students to gamble. World Resorts isn't even legit! I didn't feel like I was in a real casino when I went there. If there aren't a bunch of TV's with live events that you can bet on (like at the racetrack) and a huge poker hall, the casino has no appeal to me. All World Resorts has is the standard casino games minus live poker and some TV's that they play sports on.

Haha yeah sounds great! I'm going to take out a little more than I need in "living expense" loans so that the government doesn't know that they're giving me an additional $20k to stake me in the World Series of Poker!

1L summer job? Puhleeeease. There's nothing more lucrative than a summer in Vegas. 8)

Rejected by Michigan today. What a waste of an ED app. I've seen two identical applicants with the same GPA as me, LSAT scores 1 point lower than my highest score, and presumably better "softs" get into UMich regular decision these past two cycles. They might be outliers; who knows. I was waitlisted during my last year of college, and I might have gotten in if I ED'ed then, but now all the red flags and their knowing who I am on here precludes me from admission. Oh the vicissitudes of life.

Leaning heavily toward the full ride and gunning. Does NU care about my C&F disclosure? Only time will tell. 8)

Looks like I got into IUB though. I'll have to wait for the mail to find out how much scholarship $ I got though.

Are Iowa and Indiana peers? I've read that IUB places a lot better in the Midwest as a whole. I'm going to have to use my Iowa fully to negotiate with Indiana if that's the case because I don't have them ties and need the school that places the best.

Your poker skills will prove handy in your negotiations. Don't show your cards at first. Then, when Indiana offers you something like $15K/yr, raise them a full scholarship from Iowa! Game, set, and match.

So I was thinking about this troll post, for some reason. So if your only goal is to get a $100k bankroll to play poker with, I wonder if you could just go to an expensive grad school (not necessarily law school) at full cost (e.g. Berkley), register for a full-load of classes, and once your loans come through to pay for everything, but before the class-drop deadline, just drop all your classes for a full refund on the $80k (or whatever). Thinking your odds of making this work would probably be best at a school that charges you by the credit hour--maybe you could drop all your classes but one if need be. You wouldn't ever even need to move to the city that you're school is in, and thinking maybe that refund money would be paid to you as a check (same as the refund check you get to live off when you borrow in excess of tuition). That would allow you to forgo law school altogether while acquiring a bankroll to play poker with. The only negative seems to be that you're taking on non-dischargable student debt to make this happen, but in all reality, your odds at winning enough money playing poker that you can repay the original loan plus make some money seem to be better than your odds of getting a well paying job that allows you to service the debt and save up $100k to play poker.

Alternatively, maybe you could get a bunch of credit cards with high credit limits (e.g. 5 credits cards with $20k limits) and do a large cash advances on each one to get that bank roll... Or buy shit with the cards at places that will refund the money in cash when you return the goods. I feel relatively confident that you could find a shady merchant that would allow you to do that, especially if you were to give the merchant a kickback in exchange for the transaction.

OR maybe you could take out a mortgage on a house, and flip the house for cash, but don't repay the bank with the money you get... OR get a few bank loans for used cars---some banks will give you a check for value of the vehicle if you're borrowing to buy a car from a private seller... There's a million possible options here that all seem better than wasting 3 years of your life attending law school just so that you can acquire a bankroll to play poker with.

Of course, if you accept federal loans and drop out, you have to return the loans, because it's fraud to use them for something other than education.

But, since DaRascal's such as bad ass at playing poker, he could just go double up that money and return the student loans before the loan servicer requires him to pay them back.

Do you guys think it's possible for me to send an e-mail or call up the financial aid office at IUB and negotiate?

I have a full tuition scholarship from Iowa with a guarantee of in-state residency after my 1L year and I have $75k over 3 years at Indiana (which costs 48,000/year). I might still choose Iowa regardless because I believe it's traditionally been the slightly better school, has a better law library, and better employment numbers, but I just wonder if they'd bump my $75k up to an out of state full tuition scholarship. I highly doubt they will because of my numbers (3.49/161), so part of me says I shouldn't bother trying. Do you think it would work?

Why would you need a guarantee of in-state residency if you have a full ride?

Those are just the terms of the scholarship. It's a full scholarship with tuition switching to the in-state rate after the first year.

Curious about your stats, dooder.

If you could give a range if you're not comfortable sharing, that would be great.

I need advice.

I'm in at UVa, Georgetown, and Duke with no money. Not expecting any either. (LSAT 168, gpa 3.6)
I have full tuition or almost full scholarships at Wake Forest, BU, BC, and George Washington

What should a gal do in this situation? I'm so confused.

I don't really know what type of law I want to do... probably something in health law? but who knows.

I don't think "who knows" is something someone entering law school should say about their future aspirations. Perhaps you should spend a little more time researching different careers paths within lawyering?

Just a thought.

You should retake the LSAT

When saying "who knows" I don't mean to say that I haven't done insane amounts of research and spoken to a bunch of lawyers and all that stuff... I more mean that no matter what I think I know, I can't be certain. A ton of people go into law school thinking they want to do one type of law, but that changes after a year. So "who knows" means that none of us actually know, so that's not a huge factor in my decision. Does that make sense? sorry for the confusion

In that case I probably just wouldn't bother going to law school. You need to have some semblance of a plan and it needs to be at a reasonable price. You may or may not have the second but you don't have the first.

If you want advice then wait until all your offers are in and start a choosing thread (this thread is actually about gambling addiction). Make sure you give all the info in the stickied thread at the top of the Choosing a Law School subforum

Spoiler alert: people are going to tell you to retake the lsat because you're a point or two away from much, much better options.

So yeah, retake the LSAT in June if you want to go to law school.
