GW Class size

Postby shawmaster » Sat Sep 27, 2014 10:52 am

Hi,
I want to go to GW, but worried about the large class size. are classes cramped in there? how are the facilities, are they sufficient for such a large student body?

Maybe some GW students can help and shed some light.

GW kid here. The class size doesn't make the space too crowed. It does make the jobs/internships/etc. hard to come by sometimes.

Does it have an effect on competition? is it harder to compete in a larger class? Grades wise.

Can't speak to GWU, but my school is gigantic as well, and I love it.

OCI was brutal for a lot of people at GW this year. c/o 2015 had less than 400 people, yet 2016 had almost 500, then they admitted a bunch of transfers (I've heard numbers of 50-150 thrown around). This year the entering class is like 550. Even though they break you up into sections, some classes literally did not have enough seats for the students.

Don't go to gw. The law school is turning into a cash grab for the university by admitting every 3.8/157 and transfer to get them to pay sticker.

I was inside the top 20% and got massacred. Seriously. The school is awful.

No, because of the mandatory curve.

How the Transfers do in OCi? Are they at a disadvantage having to rely on their previous school's grades?

NYU, 450.

Like other posters have said in this topic though, GWU seems to not be doing so well so tread carefully.

In general, transfers are seen by employers as somewhere around median at the new school. Unless you're also going to participate in your old school's OCI (which may not be possible in a lot of cases), your old grades won't really matter.

Transfers

If you're a 0L, you honestly shouldn't even be using the word "transfer." For instance, suppose you have a 160/3.85 and you get into GWU. You absolutely kill it your first year, and transfer to UVA. The problem is, you pay sticker at UVA and you've missed out on the opportunity to have killer 1L grades at UVA. Had you retaken the LSAT, you could have gotten scholarship money, better grades come OCI time, and not have had to kill 1L in the first place.

So if I get GW with money and Penn at sticker, what should I do?

Depends on how much money. GWU with a fully, DC ties and an IP background>>>Penn at sticker.

Penn at sticker is pretty scary honestly. You should probably retake and get some money there.

If this is your goal, Penn>Michigan.

Then Penn > Michigan if COA is equal.

These goals & GW are not compatible.

If Biglaw is your goal, you should really only be looking at Yale thru Cornell.

So Penn/Michigan should be ok? but not GW? but from ABA DISCLOSURES they have like 130 people who got biglaw...which is on par with many top schools

130/550 is piss. its ~30%, many of whom are diverse & IP - and the school is getting worse, and I think employers know it.

Biglaw is not a guarantee even at Harvard. People with great grades strike out all the time.
Put the odds in your favor and by going to the best school possible, COA being equal.

When you have actual offers, make a Choosing thread. We are not saying that Michigan at sticker is a wiser decision than GW for free or close-to free...just that Michigan and Penn is better for Biglaw placement.

Or free at a T20, with a backup plan, ready to drop out if you get bad/average grades or strike out at OCI.

Yes. All a matter of preference.

Mind sharing your stats OP or is this entirely hypothetical? If so, then kill the LSAT and get $$$ at better schools than GW.
