You should apply to the bottom t14 just to keep your options open but you're right you won't get full ride

Apply to Texas smu basically any top 100 tax school
Apply to schools ranked 20-50 in neighboring states or where you would want to practice

Request fee waivers everywhere

Yeah, I agree with this guy. I definitely wouldn't limit your apps to T2. You'll get some full ride schollys from T1 schools with your numbers.

Also dude, don't double post the same thing in multiple forums. The mods do not take kindly to that.

You should get into UT with money- you are at their Med LSAT and above med GPA- people last year got 90k and you are a resident.

Apply to SMU as backup.

Retake, cop a fully at UT, and enjoy/profit. GPA is much too high to waste on a 167

Just out of personal curiosity, but why do you want to go solo right after school?

Retake and get a full to TX or higher into the T14 so that you can get a job that will grant experience prior to going solo.

Let me get your attention:
DO NOT BE AN IDIOT. RETAKE

Good, now, that I have your attention, let me explain why NOT retaking would be your single biggest mistake of the year.

1) You want to go solo. No idea why, but that's great that you want to be captain of your fate. However, no lawyer is an island, and being a lawyer, you are still subject to the prestige-obsessed nature of the profession. Having a T14 name (especially a school like Columbia / HYS) on your resume will make a significant difference in your options, both in helping you get noticed in the sea of solo lawyers out there, and helping you find other opportunities in case solo-lawyering doesn't work out or isn't your cup of tea. Do not kid yourself - the prestige of your law school degree / school STILL matters.

2) You want to avoid debt. I truly applaud your attention to this area. Many 0Ls treat loans like Monopoly money and end up committing financial suicide. But your current situation leaves you in the unenviable position of having to accept partial rides at mediocre schools or full rides at schools that really aren't worth your time. Gain two points and you're looking at a full-ride to UT, which will set you up for success anywhere in TX. Get three points and you're looking at full-rides at the bottom T14. And get four points and you've just opened the door to full rides in the top 10 law schools, and potentially a shot at HYS.

3) In other words, your potential upside is quite a lot. Let's be clear: you are leaving tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table by not retaking. What about the downside you say? Well...

4) The beauty of your situation is that if you actually don't end up improving your score, you'll be in the exact same position you're in now, minus maybe $300. Most schools (especially the ones that you're looking at now) won't average scores. I'd say it's worth it.

You studied for months. You tried as hard as you could. The thought of opening those books sucks the joy out of you. I get it. But the LSAT is a learnable test, and you CAN do better. It'll take a lot of motivation and some grit, but heck, you want to go solo! You'd better learn to hustle when you think you can't hustle anymore.

You want to go solo right? That means that in order for your to make a living, others have to trust your judgment. Don't start your career by making a hugely dumb decision.

it's obvious you should retake
you have a great gpa, that paired with a 170+ score will mean $$$$ at top schools
and your 167 indicates you can break that 170

not retaking would be a tremendous mistake

If you want to be a solo in Texas, please gun for UT. If you gained 2 points on your LSAT, you'd essentially be a lock for a full ride there. A solo in Texas had a good Q&A thread on here and said that going to UT got him a lot of business because a lot of his clients had allegiance to the school or had more respect for him.

Def this. I wasn't the poster, but read it, and many people are like "You go to UT Law, waow" here. Not that it is in the legal field, but the lay prestige of UT in Texas will carry great weight if you practice solo in Texas. That being said, retake.

I doubt that in general people care about where their solos went to law school ("Dude, you went to Cornell? You'll totes get me out of this DUI!!!") but UT for someone in Texas might be an exception. Not because they know that UT law is ranked in the top 20 nationally or whatever but just cuz Vince Young and Hook Em and whatnot.

Although your area may care. My hometown is more of an A&M area and I get a good bit of shit for going to UT Law versus TAMU Law, but I also don't want to go solo and I think that, in general, UT is a better bet anyway in case you change your mind about the whole solo practitioner idea.

Why are you so intent on going solo immediately? (Seem to remember you've posted multiple similar thread.)

It's fine if that's your eventual goal, but don't you want to get some experience first and learn what the hell you're doing before you try to go it alone?

Retake and get 3 points higher. You'll be happy with Cornell and Northwesterns offers. I was in a similar spot of a 3.88/167 and boosting to a 170 was amazing in terms of the differences.
