Not even close. When cost of living difference is included it's way more than 100k difference.

I agree duke here and will make a similar decision. But after looking at all similar threads it seems like TLS always suggests going to the cheaper school unless the person is solidly PI or in at HYS. Why does HYS get the pass for accumulating debt (even when the poster wants big law) but CCN are almost always advised against unless the money is about the same as the lower T14 (which is almost never the case)?

It doesn't, really, many people here would tell you that sticker at HYS is not recommended.

Depends on the goals but for most people it doesn't make sense to pay substantially more for HYS. CCN are worth more than Duke but as mentioned earlier once you factor in lower COL and reduced interest Duke is simply a much better deal here.Chrstgtr wrote:I agree duke here and will make a similar decision. Because HYS is better than NYU...Chrstgtr wrote:I agree duke here and will make a similar decision. Not sure what makes you think we give HYS a pass. Most grads would tell you that, if your goal is biglaw, HYS at sticker is an absolutely awful idea when compared to a huge scholarship from a lower T10 or T14 school.Chrstgtr wrote:I agree duke here and will make a similar decision. It doesn't. Trust me. I'm getting beaten up in my decision thread for going to S at sticker, and it's not even all debt-financed. Modern TLS wisdom appears to be that HYS is strictly for the very poor and the very rich. People in the middle need not apply.Chrstgtr wrote:Why does HYS get the pass for accumulating debt (even when the poster wants big law) but CCN are almost always advised against unless the money is about the same as the lower T14 (which is almost never the case)?

Oh and since I never actually provided the rationale for my vote: Definitely pick Duke. I went to NYU, love NYU to death, and still think Duke is 100% the right choice. NYU is of course great for NYC biglaw, better than Duke would be. But you of course have to place a value on that marginal benefit. And I will tell you right now that it isn't 90K+.

Thread should get bumped with more Duke votes, IMO

Ah, let me bring this thread back to life. How about Duke with 60K and NYU at sticker? Which one would you choose?
