Wake v. Emory v. Mich

Post by oldhornets » Tue Mar 11, 2014 8:53 pm

Considering Wake Forest, Emory, and Michigan

Costs
Wake Forest ($35k/yr scholarship) : (7,500 tuition + 20,500 COL) x3 = $84,000
Emory ($29k/yr scholarship) : (20,000 tuition + 25,000 COL) x3 = $135,000
Michigan (sticker) : (52,000 tuition + 23,000 COL) x3 = $225,000

Paying With:
All Loans. Parents would help me out, and I realize this is, on its face, a better option because of the lack of interest, but they just finished paying off 400k+ of their own debt, and I'd like for them to be able to relax.

Ties:
Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. HS and undergrad in Michigan. I love North and South Carolina, and my goal is biglaw in Charlotte or Raleigh, but I realize the market is saturated. I would prefer biglaw anywhere in the south (namely, Atlanta) to NYC or Chicago. Do not want PI or gov by any means.

170, 3.3

Many Thanks

Is it more important for you to have biglaw or to be working in the south?

southern small firm (midlaw?) > northern biglaw > southern gov or PI

I'm just not sure of the small firm possibilities in the Carolinas.

Your COL estimates seem a little high.

Maybe just borrow some money from them? Interest free principle ftw

I'm interested in this as well. What is the employment situation looking like in Charlotte and RTP?
