Chicago schools: John Marshall V DePaul V Kent
Got a tough decision to make, money isnt an issue. I have visited each school extensively and while I am leaning towards Kent, mostly due to ranking, I was wondering if anyone can give me some more personal insight. Alumni opinions from each would be greatly appreciated.

If money isn't an issue, hire a private LSAT tutor and retake for UChi or Northwestern.
Good luck

Assuming you are in the best possible case scenario, which is that your parents have hundreds of thousands of dollars in disposable income that they do not mind parting with whatsoever, Kent is the obvious choice here. Are you aware, however, that only 56% of Kent's 2012 class got ANY job that required a JD not funded by the school? Is going to a school like that worth your time even it's free? Think about what else you could do with three years of your life and $200,000.

I'm in a similar situation. Retaking is not an option at this point, and I am leaning towards Kent as well. I actually visited last week and got a good vibe from the school as oppose to other similar ranked schools in the area. If you have an thoughts or further insight, please do share.
Clock's ticking and I need to make a decision lol
You can PM me if you'd like me to discuss my Kent visit etc.
Gluck

Yeah you're right...just impatient to wait another cycle, but obviously it's the better and smarter choice--thinking long termjk148706 wrote:Retaking is always an option

In order to receive the best feedback in this forum, please provide as much of the following information in your original post as possible:
-The schools you are considering
-The total Cost of Attendance (COA) of each. COA = cost of tuition + fees + books + cost of living (COL) + accumulated interest - scholarships. Here is a helpful calculator.
-How you will be financing your COA, i.e. loans, family, or savings
-Where you are from and where you want to work, and other places where you have significant ties (if any)
-Your general career goals
-Your LSAT/GPA numbers
-How many times you have taken the LSAT

Let's be real here. You'll be doing some 40 K shit law job coming from any of those schools. You can save your parents a lot of money and just find a job for that much right now. Or just re take the LSAT.

Why think long term when you can think short term? You aren't getting a job out of any of these and you likely will never be a lawyer, so you might as well choose based on location. John Marshall's building is relatively new and right across the street from a Chipotle so I'd go with that.

I'd pay 200k to be that close to a chipotle for 3 years.2014 wrote:You aren't getting a job out of any of these and you likely will never be a lawyer, so you might as well choose based on location. I know people are visual so I wanted to emphasize the advantage of John Marshall.
Note that the chipotle is in fact on the NORTH side of the street. The current flag is in fact a Barnes and Noble. The walking distance is the same however so do not fret.

The troll comments on this thread are disturbing. OP is asking for help with a serious life decision and you people are talking about how close John Marshall is to a Chipotle? Seriously, sometimes this site is just infuriating.
How does NOBODY mention the fact that DePaul is closer to Chipotle than John Marshall?
Grow up, people.

Actually, DePaul law and the Chipotle building are connected by a skyway.

An actual serious question, but do grades even matter at a school like John Marshall considering only about 3% get big-law and clerkships? Are all the small-firm jobs and Cook County gov gigs grade-sensitive or is it just pure networking/connections/hustling to get those jobs.

Those types of more modest jobs sometimes still list things like "top 50 percent" in their postings but no idea if they stick to that. I would think in general a good hustle is better than good grades.illiniguy1551 wrote:An actual serious question, but do grades even matter at a school like John Marshall considering only about 3% get big-law and clerkships? 1. The Chipotle is not in the Barnes and Noble building, google maps fucked it up, it's across Jackson from there.
2. You can exit the John Marshall building on the east side (walking through "Pritzker Park")
I'm convinced it's equidistant - so we need a tie break. I'm getting pretty invested in this but I like DePaul and John Marshall equally so idk what the right call is.

I know Loyola is not in this discussion. BUT if they were, they're next to a Qdoba. Are we staying Chipotle>Qdoba??

That's a tough one. We may have to consult the Cooley ranking methodology.

There is also a Taco Bell a mere block away from Kent's Chipotle, for all your drunk food needs.Nova wrote:This can not be a coincidence

So people who like Chipotle have never eaten another burrito in their life, ya?
Food in Chicago is supposed to be incredible, I wouldn't waste my meals/money at a TTT establishment like Chipotle.
Where are these schools located in relation to actual good food?

Kent has Greektown close by so it beats DePaul & John Marshall (both in the Loop) but they probably have more high end options if that's your thing.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
