The ONLY justifiable school in the state of Michigan is the University of Michigan.

40% of MSU grads get hired to be lawyers.
28% of UDM grads get hired to be lawyers.
81% of UMich grads get hired to be lawyers.

Dig around this site. ^^
Take a year off, study hard for the LSAT, get a 167+. There's great resources on here, and plenty of retake success stories.
UMD, not UDM.
The lulz. MY BAD.

I'm just gonna, uh...

yeah.

(I've been getting weekly emails from UDM and they have earned a bit of my overflowing ire)

Thats like, 140k for tuition + COA for a 50/50 shot at practicing law. .

Would you have to pay COL as well? If so, then no way. If not maaaaaybe but I definitely would not. Not really a school that anyone should pay sticker.

Even if you only take out loans for tuition you are looking at about $81,000 (based on the number you provided). Not accounting for interest accrued while in school. That's approximately a $900 payment per month for 10 years or $700 for 15 years. Based on how that makes you feel, I guess you can decide whether it's worth it or not, but if it was me, I wouldn't do it. Prospects of obtaining a job that makes servicing that debt are bleak.

I would not have to pay for COL, and even if I chose to, I would have a place to stay for pretty cheap. I think I would end up with about 110-130k in debt (max). Why is this school ranked so high if their graduates are not getting jobs? It's ranked higher than schools like Cardozo, and around schools like Wake Forest and other pretty good schools...... I don't get it. Their median LSAT is lower than the schools around its rank as well.... I don't understand how these rankings work.

That's precisely why US news ranking don't mean much. You have to look at each school objectively in regards to job placement. The only thing that matters is whether you have a good shot at getting a decent job upon graduation. Visit LSTscorereports.com and do your research there. That website will be your best friend. Rankings should never be your number 1 factor in considering where to go to school. Typically you want to pick the cheapest COA possible at a school that has employment numbers reflecting your career goals. Hope this helps.

How does a school like this justify charging so much for tuition if only half of the graduating class get employed as lawyers? It seems egregious.
