The only time I've spent in Texas was a few months in San Antonio in the middle of what they call "winter." (mid-70s) I was just making light of the fact that summers are hot as fuck down there from what I understand.

Yeah, the weather in Texas is terrible. No matter what extreme it is, it's violent. Oppressive heat, thunderstorms, etc.

Why would a student take NY biglaw over Texas when they get paid around the same and Texas has a much lower COL and no state income tax?

1. NYC is awesome
2. Texas is way too hot and dry

I actually had a different experience, it seemed like about 40% in one of my small classes said they wanted to go out of state.

Also sometimes it seems like 1/3 of our class is from CA and a lot of them chose UT over UCLA/USC. That baffles me. But, Austin I guess.

Austin is amazing. I prefer the Village to Austin but there is no chance I'd live near morningside heights versus the beauty of 6th street. (This being from a social perspective)

I hear UCLA is in a pretty awesome area though. USC, not so much.

Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio are likely very hard to differentiate between from any other major big city in the US with few exceptions (SF, NYC, etc)

You're using the word "beauty" in a different way than people usually use that word, right? 6th street is a lot of things but beautiful is not a word I have ever thought of to describe it.

I would say that the area around UCLA is objectively beautiful but not exactly awesome. Especially if you're a student.

Where are these people from who think Notre Dame is so amazing? I've lived in several regions of the country and don't think I've ever heard anyone speak of it that way. Midwest thing? West coast?

I always thought of it like Penn State or something. Old, mostly irrelevant football history. Didn't even know it was actually as good a school as it is until probably after college.

UCLA/USC, BC/BU, GW, and ND typically have the best biglaw placement stats in markets outside of their own in the 15-25 school range.

Fordham has good placement stats as well but it is largely NYC placement rather than placement outside of its core market.
UT is similar if you consider all of texas the market; if you only consider Austin UT's market, then I would add UT to the list. That doesn't seem right though.

I go to ND law school now and have always thought of the undergrad as on par with the lower ivies. I know people that got into lower ivies that didn't get into ND (dont know if that really means anything though). Everyone I know who is Catholic or from the midwest has a similar opinion. I tell people I go to NDLS and they definitely think its a big deal.

That being said NDLS is not as prestigious. They place a lot into clerkships but biglaw numbers are around 20% I think.

It's pretty selective for undergrad. Not Ivy league selective, of course, but still in the upper tier.
