Saw this come through one of my news feeds and thought people here might be interested in it. I have not looked at the data, but the author claims to have figured out what percentage of students retain their scholarships after the first year. (I don't know if it takes into account people whose scholarships are decreased, so this might be a best case scenario.)

I dunno, they actually seem pretty up front about it. And they're still the cheapest school in Ohio. And really cheap overall. If every TTT and TTTT was priced like this I think the average law grad would be better off than they are now.

Correct me if I'm missing something in the numbers.

Also what is a capital university?

I'm not sure if I really have a problem with what Akron's saying here. They're basically saying their scholarship retention data is pretty easily accessible (it is) and that they're not obligated to continue a merit scholarship when students stop showing merit (debatable, but definitely a fair point).

I don't think Akron is really "duping" anyone. We see TTT students rationalize a crappy choice through shitty logic/overconfidence in their abilities all the time on here, even when presented with all possible objective evidence to the contrary. At some point it's just not really the school's fault anymore.

What if TTT's had a business model like...

Everybody comes in with a half/two thirds/whatever scholarship, and you keep it if you're top third, or you keep half if you're top half.
Then the bottom half would have only dropped ~20k, could bail without going further in the hole, and you have enough students left to be commensurate with the job prospects.

And if special snowflake is in the bottom half, and STILL wants to pay 40k a year....well they're trying to throw their money away down some void, so why not into a law insTTTiTTTuTTTion?

I actually like their approach. They're straightforward and if you flame out, I'd much rather do so with a 3/4 scholarship that I wouldn't have retained than a 1/4 scholarship that has no stips.
