Re: Where to apply with my numbers?
As you mentioned the retake option will almost certainly be the consensus, and it is TCR. If you bump your score up to 170 you're looking at T-14 with $$ Especially at those schools who regard GPA slightly over LSAT (Berkley). Hit 172/3 and Stanford is pretty likely.

Re: Where to apply with my numbers?
Why wouldn't you retake? You are literally throwing tens of thousands of dollars away by doing so. Retake and go to HYS, or Duke/UVA/Vanderbilt with huge $$$.

Can we pin that? Or is there any way to make it auto-appear in these threads?

Re: Where to apply with my numbers?
I don't really see the problem with this kid going to UTK for free (assuming UTK gives out full rides + stipends, and assuming OP's numbers are good enough to get him that). But retaking is always a good idea. You don't want to spend your whole life wondering what could have been.
How did you prep for the LSAT?

Serious question - do you have a bachelors?TennesseeLaw wrote:I am an undergrad at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. I went to, and graduated from, a two year community college.
Regardless, nobody here is going to tell you anything but retake. You have a 4.0 dude, you could at least try to put in a solid effort on the LSAT.

This profession is a 40 year investment, much of which is determined by two numbers, your LSAT and GPA score. You have 50% of the equation to get into any school in the country. Why would you not take one year (2.5% of your time in the profession) to perhaps open up a world of options?
Imagine going to Vanderbilt for free. That's worth more than $150,000.

OP, please retake. Your GPA coupled with a strong 170+ LSAT score could get you HYSCCN.

What was the section you did the worst on?TennesseeLaw wrote:Thanks for the advice all. I hired a private tutor and studied for the June test since March. I will consider retaking. Although, I did surpass my practice tests with my score by a couple points. I struggle with timing on standardized tests, especially RC. If there is any other advice, it is appreciated. Oh, and I have an Associate of Science and will have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
If I were to practice in Tennessee, I have been told that UTK with money is as good or better than t14 without money because of the alumni network and value. However, I do understand that retaking is a good idea. Thanks all.

Please retake. I would have done some horrible things to have that GPA when I was applying to lawl school.

It looks like you might have some room for improvement then, especially on LR. Keep at it.TennesseeLaw wrote:LG -4, RC -9, LR -6, LR -3timbs4339 wrote:What was the section you did the worst on?TennesseeLaw wrote:Thanks for the advice all. I really struggle with the reading. I was disappointed with my LG performance though. I ran out of time on both LG and RC.

Re: Where to apply with my numbers?
The people telling you UTK law is a stronger option than a T14 for TN are shitboomers and UTK alumns. Look at placement data. Yes, UTK places some grads into goodpositions in its local market, but many, many others will be underemployed, and your chances at work with a large firm are very small. Vandy or Duke with your UG and ties will give you a much greater chance at a legal job and a lucrative career.
No reason to run out of time on LG if you prep well. I think you can improve on LR too with more PTs. Private tutors are OK, but taking the test in real conditions more than once is important. Many people see substantive improvements from a first score, and Im sure you can too.

Re: Where to apply with my numbers?
I mean, IF you could get the same position, yes. But the T14 opens up positions at a much lower place in the class than UTK.TennesseeLaw wrote:Yes, but I was talking about going to UTK for free and practicing in Knoxville vs. going to t14 at sticker and practicing in Knoxville. To me, it would seem crazy to rack up that much debt to simply practice in the same place, but maybe I'm wrong.dixiecupdrinking wrote:I suspect this is exactly right.jbagelboy wrote:The people telling you UTK law is a stronger option than a T14 for TN are shitboomers and UTK alumns.
I have no idea what the best opportunities in Knoxville are, though.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
