Stanford is a long shot for most people but it would definitely be worth the application fee. You're gonna get in to multiple top fourteens with great scholarship options. I would apply to Yale and down. Go with god and pick a city you like.

In at CCN with money and down, strong chances at stanford and harvard. The schools you listed would most definitely be selling yourself short. With your numbers I would only accept hysccnp and the last 4 with scholarships/grants. This isnt a prestige issue, its an opportunity cost consideration.

173/3.8x and you only got 50% at Colorado and Lewis and Clark? What am I missing?

Thank you for your prompt replies. I have a quick related question, to which I already know the answer but want reassurance. Is the added expense of a big name, well regarded institution quickly recouped by the added prestige of having "Stanford" on your resume?
It has less to do specifically with prestige and more to with employment stats (which, granted, may be correlated to perceived prestige).
The schools you applied to are junk and have awful employment stats for the price, the t14 have good stats, either leading to, or because of their prestige (or a mix).

Yes, the expense is worth the name for YHS. 1/3 of Yale, Stanford and Harvard grads get Article III clerkships. If you ever want to do academia, these schools will put you in the best position. You basically don't have to worry about grades.

And honestly, with your numbers, you should have gotten full rides at those schools you applied to. The fact that you didn't pretty much proves these schools are cash cows for their unis. At the T-14 level, you will definitely see some serious money, from half to full schollys depending on the school. Just make sure you submit a "Why X Law School" with each app or you run the risk of YP (at least at the lower T-14). Good luck!

I don't know about Colorado, but L&C is really stingy. They know there are enough people out there who are dying to go there that they don't give nearly what people can get at other schools, even higher-ranked schools.

JoshuaFitch wrote:Ah, about the 50% thing, I'm not exactly sure why, and I am posting the results from memory 1 year out. I'm a bit hazy on the details. Maybe it was because I applied late in the cycle? For example, I was unable to apply at Stanford because my LSAT scores came in after their deadline. This time I will be early though. Would that make a difference?
Apply September 1st and you will increase your odds by quite a bit.

Here is the latest employment info. going to a top school is a better investment.

you seem to new to this. i would check out lawschoolnumbers.com to see how similar applicants are faring. you'll see you have a great chance at most top schools, as law school admissions is basically a numbers game. good luck!

You are an auto-accept for NYU, Chicago, and Columbia. I would be very surprised if you did not get Stanford and/or Harvard as well. Yale is also possible, but it's always a toss-up.

So yes, you were selling yourself very, very short by applying to those schools.

I had similar numbers (not this cycle), didn't get YHS but got $-$$ at each of CCN. YHS definitely aren't out though, so yes, selling yourself short.

Interesting. At 173/3.8x L&C should have offered him full scholly plus stipend plus guaranteed position as new dean upon graduation.

"Top ten" is an utterly meaningless designation.

OP, you do not have a "strong shot" at Stanford, unfortunately. You have a shot, but it's less than 50/50. You have a significantly stronger shot at Harvard, but you're definitely not a lock. You have essentially no shot at Yale.

Keep in mind that YHS all give exclusively need-based grants. Your age means that your parental income will not be considered; depending entirely upon your assets/income, it's possible to get a scholarship for substantially more than half-tuition at these schools.

Thanks again for your helpful feedback, including TheNextAmendment, who, at the very least, provided me with a chuckle.
