Top Law Schools

I really need help deciding. I want to eventually practice in southern California. What do you guys think?

Scholarship Money:

UC Hastings: full ride
UCI: full ride
U of Arizona: $20,000 a year
ASU: none
Pepperdine: none

GPA: 3.0 Hard Sciences
LSAT: 163

Of those? UCI. None are particularly good options, but I'm not sure you'll get something better with that GPA. I guess I would just roll with UCI in that case.

I really don't get the scholarship offers though. Do you have some sort of UC free tuition deal? And are you URM?

Full ride below both medians is pretty amazing

Your post history (all from today) would suggest that you're waiting to hear from ASU, JUST got accepted off the wait list at Hastings, and have been waitlisted at UCI. So... I'm confused.

Ya that's correct. I just wanted to put all my potential viable options out there and see what people thought would be my best bet. I really appreciate everyone's feedback!

All trash schools, wtf? Sure Hastings and Pepperdine are kind of terrible now. BUT UofA actually has decent numbers and UCI is up & coming. Seriously UofA is the right answer in this choice. UCI may or may not be a bad school but UofA has the numbers to back it up. 65% to get a REAL job, prob not biglaw but with the small amount of debt you should have no problem managing it. Plus the alumni base is way cooler than UCI's.

There's no way you should spend a dime on tuition for any of these schools. How are you paying for COL? It's slightly defensible to take Hasting or UCI even having to pay COL through loans, but it is in no way logical to take any of the other schools period. Between UCI and Hastings I don't think it matters much, but you said you want to work in SoCal so UCI.

aren't the arizona schools (uoa/asu) largely online universities? I never rly thought of them are real schools

I don't see a huge problem here. If all these options suck (which they do), why not just say so? Calling out UCI when it is clearly the best option of the options available for the sake of maintaining an image on the interwebz is stupid.

I'm not disagreeing with that, simply pointing out a flaw in your response. Also, you conveniently left out the one defensible alternative.

Most of you in here are just plain ignorant. I don't know if you all have heard, BUT there are other law schools that exist outside the top 20. The OP isn't asking why you think that you're "sooooooo much better" than him/her. I honestly find it amusing that you all have such low self-esteem that you need to patrol the forums for the sole purpose of telling someone that getting into law school isn't good enough. A lot of people would kill to have the opportunity to attend such esteemed universities. Once again, just because it is not Stanford, Cal, or UCLA does not warrant some of these responses.

And for the person who thinks that UofA and ASU are only online schools, you're an idiot. Get your facts straight before you come on to a public forum and belittle someone's accomplishments. Out of the two Arizona schools, UofA has a great program (especially in Environmental law) and, as someone else mentioned, students have consistently been landing real jobs upon graduation.

Now to answer the actual question. I personally think that any of these schools are excellent choices (all ranked in the top 50 by US News besides Pepperdine). UCI is brand new and already has been making a name for themselves. I can easily see it being ranked in the top 30 when it is eligible to be ranked. UCI with a full ride is hands down the best option here, but UofA would be my next bet. The job market in California right now is awful with the market being completely saturated with lawyers.

And for all of those that care, I am attending UCLA.

I'm not as cynical as others here, but seriously, go to your family, close friends, undergrad career advisers, shrink if you want an ego-booster pump up about how great it is you got into a law school. people come here if they want harsh advice, the added value of comparative experiences, a range of opinions, and yes, a little trolling because this is after all just the internet.

OP's options (assuming he/she gets off the waitlists) are better than many others, sure, and they deserve careful consideration, but also careful criticism given the goals and associated risks
