Hey everyone,

Gulc (with 105K) or UVA without money? Please help me decide!!

Edit: Wow, I didn't expect such an overwhelming pro-GULC response here. I'm not sure that I can get any money from UVA, but it's worth a try. The biggest factor is that I want to try and clerk coming out of law school. My passion is appellate litigation, and clerking is almost a prerequisite. GULC's clerk stats don't compare to UVA.

Does that make a difference?

In order to receive the best feedback in this forum, please provide as much of the following information in your original post as possible:

-The schools you are considering
-The total Cost of Attendance (COA) of each. COA = cost of tuition + fees + books + cost of living (COL) + accumulated interest - scholarships. Here is a helpful calculator.
-How you will be financing your COA, i.e. loans, family, or savings
-Where you are from and where you want to work, and other places where you have significant ties (if any)
-Your general career goals
-Your LSAT/GPA numbers
-How many times you have taken the LSAT

You should use the $105k from GULC to negotiate with UVA.

GULC if you have some sort of in (IP, good law connections, good work experience). Otherwise, given the comparison between GULC and UVA employment, might end up being pennywise pound foolish if you end up unemployed at GULC at 100k debt compared to employed at UVA with 220k debt

Factor in COL differences and employment outcome differences and this is a closer call than it appears. I voted for UVA, but it's marginal. As said above, if you have a factor that makes a job more certain or have some other pressing reason to be in DC, go for GULC.

I will say that one reason I did not end up attending UVA is that it's quite difficult to find jobs in C-ville for non-law, not in school significant others.

UVA's LRAP almost makes it worth it. But I don't think its $100K better. Gtown it is

Yeah, but I will say that my Fiance as well as 2 good friends of mine who brought their SO have all done well finding jobs and creating a good group since they all have the same situation. Though, I can see this being difficult for sure!

Yeah I would expect something from them. They won't match, but something like 45-60k.
