CLS placement in California?

Postby Bob-Loblaw 1 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 2:48 pm

Does anybody know, generally, if a lot of people who are dead-set on CA from Columbia end up getting back?
Thanks!

Interested in this as well.

I'm not so sure you will be able to find anything other than anecdotal evidence about this though.

According to http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school=columbia&show=ABA, California was the second most common destination with 34 grads ending up there.

What kind of law? It is definitely possible to get back to CA (or even to go there with no prior ties). My hesitation is just that you says you are deadset on CA. If you have above median grades, you will have a very good shot at CA big law. The issue is what happens if you don't do well which should not be taken lightly. CLS is full of really smart people who are driven and are excellent test takers.

I don't know how the Columbia name does in CA if you were searching for PI or small firm work or gov... I'm not saying it does badly...I just don't know. If you have big money at UCLA or USC and want socal then I would do that if you are deadset on CA.

My sense is it places very well in CA. You just have to do well as with any law school. UCLA is not really a safer bet for CA biglaw then CLS from what ive seen, since theres such a large chance you'll strike out at UCLA anyway

I want to do biglaw first, and then move to something else after 3-4 years (in-house, perhaps). However I would rather have NYC biglaw than a shitty job/no job in CA any day of the week. By dead-set I meant people who use pretty much all their bids in CA markets, which may or may not be what I want to do down the road.
