BU v BC v GW Forum

Hi All,

So time is winding down and I am still torn about where to place my first deposit. Would be great to get some feedback. Ideally I would like to work in BigLaw for a few years. Would like to have the opportunity to work in Boston (some family ties), but would also like to have the option to work in some other major legal markets (it's too hard to decide completely where I would like to live/work long term at this stage of my life). I have already taken the lsat twice.

BC (18k per yr), BU (15k per yr), GW (15k per yr). On hold at Cornell, WL at Georgetown & Vandy. Considering total COA, attending GW will be ~40-45k more than BC/BU.

W/o that knowledge, BU/BC > GW. BU/BC are more-or-less interchangeable.

My guess, however, is that BU/BC will still put you into $150k+ in debt, which is not worth it.

Therefore, retake or don't go.

Thanks for the responses. For better or worse, I'm committed to going to law school. At this point it's a matter of making the best decision out of the options I have.

Just curious as to how you're geting 120-125 at BU/BC with those scholarship. I got similar offers and projected them around 179 and 168k on the Gtown calculator, respectively (63k tuition + 19k COA, 3.5% annual increases)

That said, have you tried to get BU to beat BC's offer? I bet they'd match, at least. At effectively the same cost, BU has slightly better BigLaw placement but they'll both be fine in Boston. Honestly, either of those is the least-worst option. GWU at 170k is not good, maybe acceptable if you're doing IP but won't help in Boston.

I was a bit surprised, but BU wasn't willing to up their offer to match the 18k from BC.

Am I correct in thinking that BU will provide me with similar employment opportunities as BC in the greater Boston area but better opportunities in other major cities (NYC, etc.)?

That makes sense, then. Bum luck on BU, but if cost is the real consideration I'd stick with BC.

That's the dogma on BU/BC, and the numbers on LST reflect that BU sends a larger percentage out of MA (135/273=49.45%>103/260=39.61%), but I have no idea how much of it comes from self-selection and how much is actually due to the schools' reputation.
