I think the MVPD is very dependent on which one. I'd say Penn is worth a significant amount more than Michigan currently...Something tells me it's one of those two. If it is Michigan, I'd think way more about it than if it's Penn. Would you be WILLING to work in BigLaw and then move to Gov't? Might be a solid idea from Penn

There's absolutely no reason to be this secretive. We need to know which T14 you're talking about.

Edited my post and added the school. It's UVA

I would not do either. And I'm not really sure why these are the two options. I think a BC/BU type school is totally fine if you have ties to the area that school places in but you don't. You have ties to CA. That means you need to look at T14 schools plus UCLA/USC and maybe Vandy.

Why no acceptances to UCLA/USC with money? What about a place like Cornell or Duke with money?

Both of these choices are extremely risky. That's too much for UVA, but it's also too much for BU. You can't guarantee that you'll get a PI job, or that you'll be able to keep it for 10 years, so mitigating your risk further would be ideal. Otherwise you'd have to aim for biglaw, pay off the debt, then look at your PI options once you've gained the experience.

I was waitlisted at UCLA, Duke, and Vandy. I was accepted to Cornell but have not heard back about any scholarship. USC gave me a scholarship that would still leave me close to 200K in debt with interest plus tuition increases factored in. I tried to negotiate but they did not budge.

sit out this year and apply to UCI. Big scholarship. Prosper.

Better yet, e-mail UCI and ask if they'll accept a late app to the class of '16.

I'm guessing you're a reverse splitter, something like a 164/4.0? Hate to say it but if that's the case I think retaking until you get at least 168+ is by far your best option.

Gun to your head- UVA. But that's a crazy amount of debt and I would hate to have that sitting over my head personally.

I was going to guess the opposite...Something like a 3.0 170

Neither.

You need to grab some scholly at MVPB to make it worth it unless you're going to Penn and you're definitely going into biglaw. $266k is just an insane amount of debt to be taking on, especially if you're PI/gov't oriented. I have no idea how good or reliable UVA's LRAP is going to be for you over the next 10 years.

Gun to your head for this year- BU/BC because I cannot fathom being 250k+ in debt and BU/BC under 100k CoA is not the worst thing in the world.

Edit: Can someone speak to the difference in attaining PI jobs from UVA vs BU/BC? The rates look like it is ~12% PI to 20% PI. I'm sure the PI positions are more prestigious from UVA, but looking at them strictly as a means of loan forgiveness, is there any reason that an 8% difference justifies an extra 150k?

I, too, would like to know people's thoughts on this.

I did not. Couldn't see myself living/working in Texas.

Also, why is the general wisdom that someone pursuing PI should opt for the cheapest option? Aren't good PI jobs just as difficult, if not more, to obtain than biglaw + other outcomes that one would normally recommend a T-14 for? Also, it is assumed that big debt can be worth it for a biglaw career since the high salary would facilitate repayment. Can't this be said for PI-jobs as well considering that most schools have an LRAP, not to mention the loan forgiveness program?

Hoping someone can provide some answers to these questions.

Go with BC and try to keep your costs down by living in cheap housing outside of the city (can't really do this at BU). UVA is not worth OOS sticker.

That is a lot of money for an 18 percentage point better chance at biglaw.
