Stupid Question? Northwestern (120k) vs. UChi (15k)

Postby WhiteyCakes » Thu Mar 28, 2013 8:51 am

I suspect I know the answer already, but here we go:

Career goals are BigLaw/Clerkship/BigGov (NU all the way?)

I'd love to work in Chicago, but don't want to be wedded to Chicago. No significant ties anywhere except Philly, maybe DC.

I don't see much significant difference in LST reports, other than Chicago may have a slight edge outside of BigLaw. Is there anything that I'm missing that would justify a 100k COA difference?

absolutely not, and good luck. NU at COL is a great choice.

Are you certain Chicago won't up their offer at all? Doesn't hurt to ask....

Even if they double to 30k, then I'm not sure it makes that much of a difference. Maybe I'm wrong?

I guess it wouldn't, but you never know unless you ask. Maybe UChi at 75k would be a different story. Maybe they really need your LSAT or GPA or YP this cycle to hit critical value x, y or z. Personally I'd take NU for free over Chi up to or maybe even above 90k, but that's just me. NU for free is one of the best deals out there in my opinion.

From the class of 2012 data

Desireable outcomes at NU: 56%
Desireable outcomes at UChi: 71%

Fifteen point difference, does the new data affect this decision?

Even though we are now going to officially call it NorTTThwesTTTern due to TTT employment statistics I still think NU is the best choice for you.

But seriously, enjoy NU bro. That's a great offer for a great school.

I don't think I'd worry too much about single-year data. But UChi will probably close the gap at least a little before you need to make this decision.
