YO OP ... assuming HLS and SLS tie, I don't think putting a -1 next to SLS is right. that is all.

If the info on the front page is right expect the employers to flock to Alabama IN DROVES.

All we know is that it went up. I would bet it managed to get in the thirties since it apparently went up enough for Mike to notice/comment on its movement.

23.21% in NLJ250. Class size is small, however.

Right, but even if it drops to half that, it would be around 34 for that ranking. However, this is also a school with a very strong PI focus so that rank isn't even focusing on what Chemerinsky is guiding them towards. Their clerkship numbers were also an incredibly high %. The point is UCI is very clearly a T1. It will probably start at USNWR 35-45 IMO, calling it a TTT is ridiculous. Telling people to go to USD/loyola over it is also ridiculous.

Oh, I didn't realize people were saying that. Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous.

Take a chance on UCI if you like Orange County / have connections in Southern California. Do not go there if you're from North Carolina and think you want to have a job in LA.

I know UCI has decent LSAT/GPA medians, but, how much reputation can a school started in 2009 really have? Also, there's no jobs as of yet, as far as I know, since I think the first class graduates this year. Lots of unknowns.

I was mostly just poking fun. UCI could be a decent law school in the future. Right now, I'm too hesitant. I say it starts upper TT, maybe.

i know what you mean, but can we really expect a school to gain in reputation (hence in rank) in 5 years? 10 years?

I think UCLA being the newest top school is still hurt by its relatively new reputation, correct? And it's been around for what, 30 years?

I have an issue with the whole reputation criteria because it favors schools that have generations of alumni, so we can't expect UCI (or any new LS really) to acquire this peer reputation fast enough, despite its potentially great instruction and job placement, among other relatively faster-to-improve factors.

Another thing i don't understand is how regional is this reputation factor. For example, SoCal attorneys and judges may like UCLA a lot but it may not be enough to give it a true national swag. Same with UCI, potentially. Maybe it will be the rockstar of Orange County/SD markets but outside that it will have an unimportant/unknown reputation.

Anyway, just thinking out loud...

Last year rankings were released by this time and had countdown clock, I'd guess they won't come out until tomorrow around 8am.

Lol at Illinois...

At the end of the day, people care about jobs, and law firms will come (at least in the short term) either way. Illinois's NLJ 250 placement is twice as high as Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Almost twice as high as Minnesota. So.... Minnesota can keep the top 20 ranking, we can keep the jobs.. (the few we have).

With so much library space and access to water fountains, it's a given.

agreed. But still doesn't resolve my question... How can UCLA achieve this national swag in 30 or so years since being founded when USC Law (founded in 1896) is still a regional (at best CA) school.

I think it will be #38, 39, 40, or 41, based on some calculations.
