What are your thoughts?

NYLS 30/yr Top 50% COA($20,500)
St. John's 25/yr Top 40% COA($26,000)
Seton Hall 15/yr Top 75% COA($34,000)
Drexel 25/yr GPA 2.98 COA($16,500)
Pace COA($44,000)
Rutgers-Newark COA($38,706)

Before you go all nuts with your re-take chants, don't waste your time.
Planning to go into Pharmaceutical law. Open to IP or criminal; see what else strikes my fancy when I get to law school.

Thanks! :D

I'm gonna go with none. Might as well start at Starbucks now without the debt.

Go to NYLS so people who don't know the difference will think you went to NYU. Get some of that lay prestige before you hit the unemployment lines with the rest of us who go to Law School.

1. Why? Are you happier just wasting your money?
2. Is that COA total or per year?

Retake or don't go. These are all terrible options.

Check out http://www.lawschooltransparency.com for some employment data for these schools.

Where do you want to work? assume that attending NY schools will keep you in NY, Philly schools will keep you in Philly, and NJ schools will keep you in NJ. Do you have a preference?

Hope doc review in a bunker also strikes your fancy because these are among the very worst law schools on the planet. Your odds of working as a lawyer at all is well under 50% from these dumps.

Re-take! Re-take! Re-take!

EDIT: Oops just saw you said no chanting in the OP. Well in that case, please consider retaking the LSAT.

You guys are certainly a lively bunch! I am actually a biochemist, and there is currently a huge need for people with biochemistry backgrounds in the legal market right now, so I'm less worried about the prestige because frankly there aren't many people going to law school with biochem degrees. I'll be working in the NYC/NJ area as this is where the majority of pharmaceutical companies are.

The COA is per year.

Also im not 12. I've got my rent covered, and I know what my expenses are. The COA is just that, the cost of attending the school

Has anyone attended one of these schools?

If you're actually working as a biochemist, and you're going to leave your job to go to one of these porto-potties, you're an idiot, and you deserve to suffer with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of non-dischargeable debt. With that in mind, all of these law schools will help you get there. Enjoy.

As between no job now and no job in three years, I choose no job now.

You would be surprised. Half of my classmates at BU have a background in biochem. It hasn't done much for them. You need to go to a much better school than the ones you listed or you will never be a lawyer. We're just trying to help, but if you want to destroy your future, then that's a valid choice too.

Even with your rent covered, how is that possible? The undiscounted cost of a school like Seton Hall or St. John's (excluding COL) is like 47k a year. A 15k/year scholarship, even with rent covered, still means that you're paying well over 30k (probably closer to 40k) per year for your degree. Not to mention interest if this is debt financed. Unless you aren't telling us something, you will easily be 6 figures into debt.

Look my friend, you're a biochem guy? You are obviously a pretty smart dude. Go crunch the numbers on Law School Transparency and see how bad your odds are. Go read the news articles about the droves of unemployed people coming out of these shitbox schools. You are too smart to be this stubborn. Going to one of these schools would be a terrible, terrible mistake. Either stick with your current path, retake, or don't go.

Also, are you aware there are a decent number of IP people (including biochemical) at much better schools?

If you're smart enough to get a degree in biochem (assuming at least a MA or PhD if you're expecting to parlay it into an IP job after law school), how the hell did you score so poorly on the LSAT? I am genuinely curious. I know they are different intellectual tasks, but different subsets of intelligence are usually pretty highly-correlated.

Also, the figures you are giving are confusing. Are those one year figures or three-year figures? And do you have at least 60K (more if in NYC) to cover all other expenses?

The only one of those schools that I would consider halfway respectable is Seton Hall (I gather they provide a decent education and they used to place decently in NJ, although their reputation for shamelessly inflating their placement statistics and section stacking is hard to overlook.)

Unless you have a job waiting for you, I wouldn't go to any of those other schools. They're among the most notorious legal diploma mills.

Trust me (and I'm not a doomsayer by any means) the legal job market sucks, and if you don't go to the best school in your region you're kinda screwed.

Seton Hall is a dump. To use respectable in connection with such a shitmill does disfavor upon the English language.
