I would never attend McGeorge under any circumstances

Iowa could be worth it if you took out less than $100k worth of debt. 65% shot at a job isn't worth more than that. Especially considering you're not actually from Iowa.

What makes these two particular schools not a gigantic fucking flame? As opposed to, say, the myriad of other schools in Cali that would give you a free ride with those numbers.

ETA: Agree with rad lulz abt McGeorge. Even J. Kennedy was eventually smart enough to step away.

If you go to McGeorge, you're lucky if you get a soul-crushing job you hate. That's how bad it is.

Iowa with substantial $ would be pretty good- but would you be happy with living and working in Iowa and the surrounding region?

I think you really could benefit from another year and approaching this process right. You're right that most law schools are "fucking flame" but then why did you apply at all?

I don't think there's any doubt that Iowa's a better law school. Apparently at least a measurable amount of their grads go to the Chicago area. But if you're not from Iowa, I'd be scared to make that kind of investment. This coming from someone who went to Oklahoma as a Texan, and for whom it did not go well employment-wise.

I know retake is a popular answer here, but if you think you can do better, I'd give it a go. If nothing else, sit this cycle out, keep saving people in NY, and apply to California schools with a broader net next year.

At the very least, drop out if you're not able to keep your scholly in California. If they're throwing money at people, then it makes me think there's something wrong. Where there's smoke, there's fire type stuff.

*Caveat: I know nothing about the California legal market.

They offered me a full ride and it's top 37.5% to keep the whole thing, top 50% to keep half. I think smaller scholarships might have only the top 50% stip.

Iowa is not a TT, though?

Its a TT masquerading as a T1

OP already said they wouldn't retake(well do not try to convince to take a year off). I don't think Iowa will give you money(LSN suggests they have not given a non-urm with your numbers before). If you like the midwest, I see no reason to not go to Iowa. to answer your previous question: Yes you were crazy for ever considering McGeorge.

What does this mean? They've been in the T30 for over two decades.

what you mean by have a good chance of getting in-state tuition btw? i didn't realize that wasn't a cut and dry process.

dunno anything about the LS but I lived in Iowa City for several years and it's one of my favorite towns. somehow i never thought MSW was a 0L though.

also she only said she wouldn't take a year off. can still retake in June without taking a year off and maybe squeeze out some more $$ though it's probably unlikely.

Your post doesn't really seem to consider job prospects at all. College towns, sports, etc are all extremely tertiary to job prospects and cost.

UCD/UCH are never worth sticker. Iowa is going to cost you over 100k (and that's assuming you nab in-state tuition). McGeorge makes you more likely to not find a job than to find one. There really isn't anything even close to spectacular about any school on this list. About the only suggestion I have is to go to McGeorge with the intent to only stay if you are within the top 10% or so of your class after the firs semester of 1L.

In state tuition isn't too cut and dry especially since I haven't been living there exactly for most of the time. My AmeriCorps program has me doing disaster relief all over the country. It's a residential program as I don't have a lease. I got a DL and a local Iowa bank account after the new year (at my bfs bank an hour before he dumped me  ) I registered to vote. I also am filing state taxes despite earning no Iowa taxable income this year :/.

I honestly am open to retaking the LSAT just not sure if I can realistically improve my score with the amount of time my job takes up. I did by prep materials and study a but for Feb but just didn't find time. I do have a fee waiver though so it would be a free sitting.
i guess if it's free there's no disadvantage to it (besides what ridiculous amounts of studying might do to other parts of your life). but i was actually interested in this last cycle and looked into it a bit, and while it's not totally unprecedented it's pretty rare for a june retake to have any significance for the current cycle. ofc even a 170+ would just make you a splitter, and getting $ as a splitter sucks. fwiw i had 3.4X/173 and Iowa gave me $0.

I already waited a year so please don't waste your energy trying to convince me otherwise about that.

Yes about living in Iowa. I surprisingly ended up really liking it and the Midwest. I have lived all over the country and there are regions I would not want to live. Midwest is nice though.

Iowa in state tuition is something like 22k right now. COL is pretty cheap so I'm not TOO worried about debt there. I will be coming with the 5,500 Ed award and will be asking them to match it as some schools do. I think the debt at Iowa would be worth it to me. I was just mostly making sure I was crazy to be seriously considering McG.
This really isn't something you should be boxing yourself into by saying you JUST HAVE to go this year. It's upwards of a 120K investment even with the $5500 grant (I assume it's a grant) and in-state tuition. If you haven't really given LSAT prep a solid try then you owe it to yourself to do better. There aren't a lot of legal jobs in Iowa and the surrounding area.
