Mercer Law Gift Card Offer..

Postby orbbs » Mon Dec 03, 2012 6:44 pm

So I just got an advertising e-mail today from Mercer Law. I normally just delete this kind of thing, but the title caught my eye "Mercer Law School $10 Gift Card Offer"

An excerpt from the e-mail:

"I hope you are enjoying the holiday season. As a gift to prospective students, if you apply between today and Friday, December 21, 2012, you will receive a $10 Amazon gift card. Additionally, we will waive your application fee if you call our admissions office at (478) 301-2605."

This is a mixture of sketchy and desperate that doesn't look good. They're actually paying students to apply.

Offering additional incentives to apply is not unheard of (I think Alabama was offering 10 free iTunes songs my year, an offer I almost took them up on) but it's the timetable that I'd be wary about. They might be hoping to get people signed up before other acceptances so they won't negotiate schollys, or give out acceptances and play off people's cognitive bias.

Yeah, I got that one too. Wow thanks, you mean I could pay $21 to apply for a TTT and you'll give me ten whole dollars to spend at Amazon?! Where do I sign up?

I applied to Bama for the $25 gift card and the potential opportunity to negotiate scholarships, but a) Alabama is T1 and b) $25 > $21. Come on, desperate TTTs, step up your game. Give me $100 to apply and I'll go for it.

Lol got this as well on my way home from the gym, I was contemplating making a thread about it.

Is the 10$ worth my time lol?

Law school is so classy!

Use the $10 dollars as leverage for other schools

I read this story expecting it to develop into some kind of "she would always send chain mail from the 90s to people through the mercer law email system, and someone reached his boiling point.

Was not expecting literally chain mail.

Anyone who actually falls for this deserves to go to Mercer.

Is there any way someone could send me a copy of the Mercer Law email?

And the Alabama email offer, too?
