160/3.4 best school with large scholarship

Postby Chriz » Sun Nov 11, 2012 12:26 am

What is the best school I could get into with a large scholarship? I have been shooting for UW-Madison at full price but I am now considering maybe going to a much worse school if I could avoid getting any debt.

Try t2 schools that have recently received large donations. IU-Indy and Marquette are two that come to mind, but I'm sure there are others. Considering you said your target school is UW, I would say Marquette would be a perfect fit for you. They received over $80 million 5 years ago but I don't know how much of that is left, but their tuition is twice what Wisconsin's in-state rate is, so if you are a Wisconsin resident it might be tough to make the numbers work in your favor.

I was accepted to Marquette last cycle and was awarded 12k a year.. which left it still costing more than UW. I was looking more for somewhere that I may be able to come away with less debt, otherwise obviously WI in-state would be ideal.

Seattle, St. Louis, Gonzaga.

Generally, scholarships are used to buy higher numbers. If you want a high scholarship (or full tuition) you need to be above 75% for both LSAT and GPA.

Retake, hit median, and go to UW.

Dont leave home to attend a TTT where you have to compete to retain your scholly.

I am planning on retaking in February but with work and what not its been hard to find time to practice. I am hoping there will be less good applicants this year since I was waitlisted last year, and I can get in.

Its probably already on your radar, but try Drake. Llchans got 80k there with a 3.5/160 last cycle. Many with slightly worse numbers got 60k.

Drake >> TT in saturated market. Plus its close to home.

Still, the stttips would keep me up at night. heres a list of stttips,

Michigan State (MSU) might offer a three quarters (3/4) tuition scholarship with your numbers. Reasonably easy to maintain, unless standards have recently changed, and if you lose it for your second year, you gain regain it for the third year.

Check out http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com

If I recall correctly, Syracuse might offer money for your numbers, as well. Also look at University of San Diego & University of Denver. Stetson might offer some money also. West Virginia University is another to investigate. Rutgers ? Maybe Texas Tech & St. Louis University.
Marquette might be a great option for you.
Oregon ? Kansas ? Creighton. DePaul. Villanova.

It's a no go on Marquette.. I was giving a 12k a year scholarship and It was still a significant amount more than UW at sticker for in-state. I really need a school to be ridiculous cheap for it to be more beneficial than attending UW.

No, I was waitlisted last year and could get in if I can improve my LSAT score. It is definitely within my reach I believe so I would only go somewhere else if it was way cheaper since it would be a great school for me. I want to stay in Wisconsin.

If you improve your LSAT score, then Marquette is likely to offer more money. If the school's location doesn't matter, then Albany Law School is almost certain to extend an attractive financial offer to you based on your current score.

It's just so hard to decide... I really hope I get into Wisconsin because that would be a no brainer, pretty much.
