168, 4.16 - Should I ED to Columbia or NYU?
I would love to go to either of these schools and I'd be willing to pay sticker to do so. Which school should I ED to?

You're out at Columbia, regardless of ED. NYU might let you in, but you'll pay sticker, and I'd be nervous as hell about that ITE. You're gonna hate this, but you should ED to neither and re-take. Even getting a 170 will open up a ton of doors and $$$ for you with that GPA.

Rick is correct. Problem is that as shiny as your 4.16 is to LS's it really isn't any different than a 3.9 or whatever is above their 75th. Everybody hates the retake advice because studying for the LSAT sucks but you have a legit shot at HYS or scholly money at CCN.
If you don't retake I would throw an app UVA's way, they like GPA....alot.

OP has a good chance of getting into UVA with an ED, but he/she would probably pay sticker. I wouldn't do it.

I'm retaking in December. If I get rejected or WL at NYU can I send in a better LSAT score? Should I just throw apps everywhere once I get my scores back in January?

I'm also interested in this. Why not apply now and add a note to your application stating that you are re-taking the LSAT in December?

I was not suggesting they ED.Aberzombie1892 wrote:OP has a good chance of getting into UVA with an ED, but he/she would probably pay sticker. I wouldn't do it.

This. You get your LSAT up to a 172 and you're HYSC bound.hibiki wrote:Puffin wrote:Please don't ED with that beautiful GPA, retake.
But if you must ED, you have a 50% chance at Chicago or NYU. Columbia is out of the question. You have a higher shot at Harvard off the WL than Columbia because C is a LSAT snob.
Why not RD to HYSCCN? If you get into one, go, if not re-take and reapply.

An UG friend with a 168 4.00+ applied to UVA regular decision and got like $25,000 per year.Uncle.Joe wrote:I was not suggesting they ED.Aberzombie1892 wrote:OP has a good chance of getting into UVA with an ED, but he/she would probably pay sticker. I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the advice everyone, you guys are the best. Just wondering, if I send apps out the day I get back my December scores (Jan 4th I think) how much will the late application hurt me?

It all depends on what you score. If you get a 172/173+ then it really won't matter. You'll get into HCCN, and maybe Stanford and Yale.KMG9 wrote:Thanks for the advice everyone, you guys are the best. If you're on the margins of improvement (170 or so), then you'll probably get into NYU, Chicago, and maybe 1 more. Expect a lot of WLs from the rest.

For the record, I have a friend who got into SLS with your exact numbers. If you're coming from a reputable UG (let's say top-10-to-25), that supra-4.0 GPA is going to turn a few heads, even with a sub-170 LSAT. If I were you I'd ED to NYU or CLS for sure. You can always retake if it doesn't pan out.

Curious as to why you are so willing to pay sticker price when retaking should be much less painful than repaying over $250,000 in student loans.

Re: 168, 4.16 - Should I ED to Columbia or NYU?
I'm already signed up to retake. The reason that sticker price doesn't scare me because I don't think that significant scholarship money is likely for me. I have a good GPA, but my university is just a mediocre state school, I don't have any interesting softs, and my LoRs are probably average at best.

Re: 168, 4.16 - Should I ED to Columbia or NYU?
Well this is incorrect. Undergrad, softs, and LORs matter very little for both admission and scholarships.. A 4.16 and a 170 LSAT is nearly assured of full ride offers within the T-14.KMG9 wrote:I'm already signed up to retake. And even if you had a 2.1 instead of a 4.1, sticker should scare you.

OP: If you do not retake, then consider applying to a few financial safety schools (law schools that will buy your current numbers) in geographic areas that interest you. Although at this time substantial law school loans don't scare you, they should as enrollment time nears. At least create options that you've earned with your current numbers.

This is correct.Tiago Splitter wrote: Undergrad, softs, and LORs matter very little for both admission and scholarships..
This is not. You're looking at serious money with those stats to be sure, but I'd be surprised if they garnered a full ride anywhere in the T14.A 4.16 and a 170 LSAT is nearly assured of full ride offers within the T-14.

Whoops meant to say assured of near full ride offers. Looking at LSN even that might not be correct, although I think with some negotiation most 170/4.0 people will get there.

Harvard, Columbia, or NYU would be a dream come true for me. Do you think a 170 in December gets me Columbia/NYU this cycle?

FYI, a friend of mine got into Columbia via ED last year with 4.1/168. Wasn't even put on a waitlist. Maybe he got lucky, but just letting you know that it's possible.

Not saying the OP shouldn't retake, but a 4.16 is definitely viewed in a different light from a 3.9, regardless of the fact that both GPAs will be above just about every school's medians.Uncle.Joe wrote:Rick is correct. Not saying this guy's results were typical but a 168 is not unheard of at Columbia. good luck whatever you decide.
