St. Marys ?

Postby Mainstream_Mafia » Mon Aug 13, 2012 4:39 pm

Just had a question and wanted to see what others had to say. I plan on attending St. marys because it is close to home and with my fathers passing a couple months back i would like to stay and care for family. I have a uncle who is a practicing attorney doing good for himself who keeps telling me ( Just Graduate) from anywhere and he will help after graduation as for a job. Is this enough to help put a mind at ease concerning the cost of law school ? and Graduating with a ton of debt with no job prospects ?

Their placement isnt bad. --LinkRemoved--

But most grads end up in small firms making 30-50k. Considering the cost of attendance is 170k.... St. Mary's is clearly not worth attending without a big scholarship

What is your debt situation going to be like? And when he says "help you get a job," what does that mean? If it means he can guarantee you a job (as in with his firm), then good deal. If it means he'll make a few calls, then ABORT MISSION. I've heard stories of big shot partners not being able to get their family members on at their firm (or any firm). Having this connection will help, but if you have a weak degree and/or bad grades, you're still likely screwed.

Also, this "just graduate" bit is shitboomery nonsense. He obviously doesn't understand the current hiring situation.

Well he has his own firm has a office on the side of building that he tells people is my future office. He wants me to work for him when i get out and he says i can stay aslong as i want before going out on my own.

Read literally, this made me chuckle. I'm picturing something along these lines...

Alright, well then as long as you keep your debt low, it may be a good investment.

Do you, or do you not, have a guaranteed offer, preferably in writing, contingent upon graduating from any school and bar passage with a salary that will let you service your debt?

If yes, go nuts.

It no, don't.
