I think being a barista is actually great WE--at a minimum somebody had to interview you and decide to put you in a customer-facing position. That said, while such work experience has always counted, people with such jobs make up a negligible portion of the class. Not because NU necessarily doesn't take such people, but because there aren't very many such people to begin with. Who works as a barista for two years before going to law school? Those people who don't have other job options head to law school immediately.

NU's class is mostly full of "switchers." Lots of engineers, people who dropped out of PhD programs, people who worked at NGO's, some finance types, some consulting types, some sales types.
yea, i was being facetious.

also, since Van Zandt left, there was supposedly less emphasis on WE.[/quote]

I'm not sure how much is Van Zandt and how much is the market. With applications in decline, trying to maintain medians while also maintaining the work experience requirement just becomes tougher.

As a barista myself, I've had some great WE... I've developed FANFUCKINGTASTIC interpersonal skills, led top sales teams, been promoted, transfered across the country to test/develop a top-secret mode of operation, participated in training films, became a learning coach, worked on large-scale community outreach projects, networked with non-profits, put together store culture initiatives, and the list goes on..... I think it just depends on what you want to get out of your experiences. Of course, I've had to deal with very little pay and an incredibly high-pressure/stressful environment, but it pays the bills.

Just noticed the Penn viewbook (here -- https://www.law.upenn.edu/admissions/jd/viewbook.php -- the link was included in the fee waiver email) has 25/75 stats for the c/o 2015:

LSAT 164/171
GPA 3.56/3.94

Class size of 243 as of 8/20

What this all adds up to is surely the apocalypse. Years hence your kids and grandkids will ask you, "do you remember where you were when the medians dropped"?

I bet they keep 170 as a median though

25%ile doesn't affect USN&WR ranking.

Shit post bro. No one said that LSAT 25ths affect USNWR ranking, but it still shows a lot about admissions this year (as in a pronounced rise in reliance on splitters).

Idk their GPA 25th didn't drop. You could argue that they tried to admit a bunch of splitters, got high GPA/low LSAT biters but not vice versa (who were all getting into CCN in DROVES) and lost a point on the LSAT median.

It obviously remains to be seen, but if I were forced to put money on it I'd say they went to 169.
On the other hand if there were an unusually large amount of 3.5-3.6 170s, they weren't going to do better than Penn so maybe they weren't forced to dip into the heavier splits and did keep 170 in tact.

I wonder how Penn managed to increase their applicant number by ~800 when it looks like almost every other school's applicant numbers went down. Last year they had 5106 applications and this year, according to that viewbook, they had about 5900? Weird.

If their median is at 170, they would have had to rely heavily on 164-169 LSAT scores and probably 3.7+GPA to make up a decent amount of the class, correct? This would still hold true at 169, I think. Curious to know what the split is at V. I feel like MVP would be hit unusually hard in this cycle with medians approaching that of where the rest of the T14 was at last year?

The split at V is always huge because of their fascinating statistic whoring. When you have something like probably 10% of the nationwide pool of 170+ scores contractually locked up before other schools have started admitting anyone, it makes maintaining medians a different (read: easier) animal than for other schools.

Interested to see if UVA suffers this year as a result of CCN being slightly less competitive last year. 3.3/172s used to be UVAs bread and butter but without unique circumstances it is almost objectively stupid for those same people to pull the ED trigger this cycle.

So.. mystery medians again, huh?
Hate schools that do this... (read: NYU and PENN)

Is it typical for a school to only release 25th/75th percentiles? Or are Penn and NYU perhaps only releasing that to hide a drop in median?

I'd like to think that they are trying to hide their 169(Penn) and 171(NYU)... 8)

Last year, Penn's viewbook and NYU's site both listed only the 25th/75th percentiles, so I wouldn't read too much into it.
