George Washington or retake the LSAT?

Postby kaya_lv » Wed Aug 01, 2012 3:16 pm

Hi guys,
You helped me a lot with my previous post and I'll appreciate your opinion again.
I was taken off of the waitlist at George Washington in DC and was offered $5,000 per academic year with no GPA requirement to maintain the award. It doesn't seem like a lot of money but I have some savings and my parents will help me with my living expenses. I'll probably end up with $100k or close to that amount in loans. Is it worth to accept that offer or should I wait and retake the LSAT?

3.8/155!?!?!
My first instinct is to say,
RETAKE!!!!!!
How long did you spend preparing for 155? Do you believe you could raise your score about 10 or more points by Oct/Dec? Near sticker at GW is over paying, even if you do have the funds to come out with a reasonable amount of debt (~100k). You should edit in a poll.

I prepared for at least 4-5 months with KAPLAN. I feel like I can improve on the RC because I did really bad there. I was going to take Test Master online course. I just received the scholarship offer and wasn't sure whether it's a good option. I know that $5,000 per academic year is basically like no offer at all.

Christ I would sell a kidney for a 3.8

RETAKE.

GW at near sticker is financial suicide and a decision you will regret for decades.

Kaplan is horrible. Honestly, forget everything they taught you. Test Masters Online is a great investment. I took their online course and along with additional self-study, I improved 18 points on my diagnostic in about 5 months.

I also would advise a retake here.... and that's coming from someone going to GW! Even if you flopped again and this time hit a 160, you'll see substantially more $$ out of GW if that's the school you have your heart set on.

I've heard from several people who were satisfied with the results they received from the Princeton Review, many of whom were previous Kaplin customers for whatever its worth.

Wouldn't go into that kind of debt for a GWU degree.

Retake and do a better test prep program (ie: Powerscore, Testmasters). Consider a private tutor if you can afford it.

Boost your score up to a mid-160s and you're T10 lock.

Retake. GWU is not a bad school, but also not something you want to jump into at almost sticker. Especially since I am almost positive you can do better and get more money.

I'm not URM. 155/3.84 and I was waitlisted and than accepted in late July. I read that it's not that uncommon for them to accept splitters.

I declined my offer and decided to retake the LSAT.
Thank you all for the opinion :)

I just got another offer from GW for $15,000/year scholarship. Should I accept it, still retake the LSAT or may be ask for a deferral? It is kinda late now since orientation starts on Monday and classes start the week after. I won't have enough time to find a place and move and I also have to quit my job. On the other hand, it sound like a good offer and I'll probably end up with ~$70k in loans.
Just because it's so late I am more willing to retake the LSAT. Hopefully I'll do better and get a better offer from GW or somewhere else next year. Share you opinion with me and let me know if you think I am wrong. Thanks :)

$15,000 is piss in the bucket. We're talking about a school that is about a quarter million dollars to attend when you account for cost of living, tuition, and interest. I would not go to GWU unless I had a massive scholarship and/or outside assistance.

Definitely retake. The worst that can happen is that you'll end up with the same offers, though if medians decline again reapplying with the same stats could yield better results. There's also a great chance that you'll score higher and have much, much better options.

70 in loans? I think you're lookin closer to 130k plus interest. That's too much for gwu.

I have some savings and my parents will help me with the living expenses. I'll probably have to borrow ~$70k but I'll spend a lot out of pocket for living expenses, books, etc. It's still a lot and the offer is in the last minute. That's why I am not very excited about it.

My buddy got into GW off the waitlist with a 157. He has a solid GPA so I told him to retake the LSAT and reapply next cycle. He didn't listen.

RETAKE!!
