Because people like our friend WhiteHorse decide to use that as a barometer for a schools' quality and placement ability. "I got a jerb therefore my school is AWESOME you guys don't know what you're talking about and are being ELITISTS"

Meanwhile 60% of his classmates aren't working as attorneys in a LT, FT capacity.

What are you talking about?

Read again. Think harder. I specifically said that I hated all law schools, and am NOT a recruiter for my school. I said it doesnt matter where OP goes because my school is the same as all of the rest outside T14. You, with all of your vast knowledge decided to bait me into an argument.

You are putting words in my mouth.

But we get it, dude. You're a big deal and my school and I are both crap. I'm sorry.

There is a saying in military combat units that kind of applies here. "Embrace the Suck!"

What it means is some REMF put you in a bad situation and no amount of whining or complaining about prior decisions is going to make the current situation any better. At this point you simply embrace the situation you are in and do everything you can to come out on top.

To be blunt, Syracuse is not part of this decision except that it is not particularly competitive in Rochester or Buffalo in LAW so who cares how good its MA or basketball programs are? Seriously, having the best master of arts might well get you to the asst manager job faster at Mickie D's but that is irrelevant in the OP's current choices.

UB allows the OP to practice in Canada if I read the post correctly. This is weighed against the marginal name recognition advantage that MSU would have outside of MI.

Both schools place about the same within their "local" markets so it really comes down to the above two issues and perhaps price difference.

To the OP, make the choice that makes the most sense to YOU. As you can see, there are advantages to both schools and short of dropping out or staying where you are the disadvantages are really nonplayers at this point.

Not my point at all. I believe there are perfectly legitimate reasons to go to lower ranked schools. I seriously considering doing so myself at one point.

I'm not picking an argument with you to show off. It's an anonymous internet forum, I couldn't care less what y'all think of me. The point is that this is a place people come to make seriously life altering decisions - for many, it will be the largest single purchase they ever make, and for most it's the largest purchase they have made to date. It doesn't help their decision making process to see things like "MSU has a great national reputation" or "employers don't care about what school you go to" because that's patently FALSE and could potentially do real damage to someone who takes it seriously. If you want to discuss the real merits of attending a TT / TTT I'm all for it because I believe there are many, but national rep isn't one of them.

Okay, let's be clear: In my first post I mentioned the MSU national rep, whatever it may be, as one of the reasons I PERSONALLY chose that school over Wayne. It was part of my decision-making process. I don't have to justify that logic to you, to OP, or anyone else, save my wife and myself.

Whatever OP does is up to him/her. We are all big boys and girls and forum posts explaining personal choices between regional schools are not going to be responsible for people going broke. OP asked for MSU students' comments. I gave it to OP. I did ask the hypothetical question of whether SUNY has the same name power. I still ask it.

And employers outside the coveted bigLaw care quite a bit less than you think about your choice of law schools. I dont care who agrees with that or not, because I see it all of the time.

Let's agree to disagree about whatever it is we're disagreeing about and let it rest. This has gotten tiresome.

"Dying," somebody lied to you when they told you that....Truth is upstate and western ny have stronger economies than the majority of the country. I never understand why people fail to realize that NY has a stronger economy and growth than most other states. I dont know where the fuck you get your informaiton but it is dead wrong.
.... I mean, google for five minutes and you will see this...Fuck man, can you not read? Come on.

Real glad you justified this dumb reason to yourself and your wife. There are many reasons to go to MSU. This was not one of them.

For fuck sakes man are ever right about anything?
First, you argue incessantly about ub being a better law school than su, when 99/100 lawyers would tell you they are on the exact same level.
Next, you attempt to trash talk (I guess that what that was) western ny. Again, you have to know that the economy is better than most - its a fucking fact...read, by all means read. the words are out there friend, embrace them with a hug and a wraparound for me.
third, you clearly are at a loss in some physical way; that explains this boorish posting. It seems to me that we need to find you a top. This will help alleviate some of that stress that you seem to be carrying around a presumably popped color (lavender perhaps?). check out 554 south state NY its called the "leather dungeon," you can thank me later, I go there on thursdays

Now please excuse me, as I pull my dick out yo mouth.

Syracuse University is great for a select few programs and outside of those programs is a very middling school. I went there for undergrad and studied at Maxwell. I'm happy with what I got out of that. The programs in Maxwell, Newhouse and the Library Science program are great otherwise I'd recommend not going there without some sort of awesome financial aid. Several of my friends went to Maxwell for their MPA or MIR programs and all of them are unemployed or underemployed. The reputation is outstanding though. As a city, Syracuse is horrible. There's not much to do and it's utterly depressing in the winter.

I'm from Upstate NY, I'm going to UB this fall and I'm happy with my choice. I'm planning on staying in Upstate. They offered me a solid scholarship and I'll be able to live comfortably on my budget in Buffalo. I'm paying 300/mo for rent and living in a nice neighborhood. There's a train system that's free for UB students that you can ride to get between Campus and downtown. There's plenty of bars and places to eat (the closing time is 4AM). If you're into sports, there's the Bills and the Sabres. The city is kind of spread out, so I'd recommend having a car. That being said, I'm going there entirely due to COA.

The winters are horrible, but there's a decent amount of things to do and it's really not that far from Toronto (2 hours) if you'd like to go there for a weekend; Rochester is pretty cool and it's only an hour and a half away. Niagara Falls is really close to Buffalo, I think there's casinos on both sides of the border there.

Maybe not for you, and maybe not in pretentious-ville, or wherever in the hell you hail from. But again, one thing i never need to do before i die is justify my actions to a bunch of clowns on the internet. Well, maybe not YOU. You obviously have life all figured out, and are more than willing to let us all in on the secrets, whether we actually care to hear what comes out of your mouth or not.
