Seattle U vs. DePaul

Hey guys,

I was all set to go to Seattle U, but I recently got off the waitlist for DePaul. I'm from Chicago, so it would be nice to go back to the city, but I didn't have a chance to visit DePaul at all, so I have no idea if it's a good school or not. Anyone have any thoughts about DePaul?

Do not attend these institutions without scholarship

Both suck about the same.

TLS elitism at its finest

OP, what do you want to do? I have no clue why you would want to come to Seattle if you're from Chicago.

About 60% of either class will not land FT LT JD reqd employment by 9 months after graduating. That sucks.

Yes, elitism = wanting a job. Thank you for your valuable contribution.

I loved the school and the city when I visited. Not exactly looking forward to the rainy days but that's cake compared to the East Coast swamp-type humidity I'm living in now. I would only consider going back to Chicago because my family still lives there, and it would be a chance for me to be closer to them (especially since we're not on the best of terms at the moment).

You're a retard if you think saying a school is not good when it places 40% of its graduates in full time, bar required employment is elitist. That is pure shit.

Cool, I'm a retard also. Yeah, pretty elitist.

Please, justify your reasoning that these schools are worth going to. Please note that I am assuming that:

1) These schools would be at sticker price, over 200K
2) He is paying himself and debt financing
3) OP does not have a job lined up after graduation

If it was 1) free, or 2) he had a job lined up, preferably a combo, then it would be fine. Otherwise there's a 60% chance that you end up debt-owned and unemployed.

Reread what you wrote. You sound like a tool.

And there is little that can be gleaned from ops post to allow you to make those assumptions

Dude got waitlisted and accepted at Depaul, people rarely get money off the waitlist. This suggests his numbers are less than stellar. Depaul and Seattle have similar medians, more or less, so I doubt he got money there either.

The other assumptions are indicative of most law student scenario. It's not a stretch to assume that they are independent/debt financing and they don't have a job lined up.

OP:

Can you give us actual numbers in re: to $$, LSAT/GPA?

fleming: I've gotten off a number of waitlists with significant offers this year, so it's plausible, if unlikely.

Absolutely, but I'm guessing with your numbers they were schools like WUSTL and GW that can afford to do so.

Also Seattle has a (lol) top 25% stip on scholarships

OP better get used to people judging his law school. Will happen a lot over the course of his legal career. Certainly lame, but it happens and people on here will at least be more up front about it than the average person making a hiring decision.

It's called professional school because it is supposed to place you in a profession. It's not elitist to expect your 200k in student loans to lead to a profession.

Off the top of my head, 'Nova, UNLV, and Dozo. But yeah, it's less likely for the OP. However, given the weirdness of this cycle, no unreasonable.

lol at top 25%, That's turrble. Full-on, Charles-Barkley, Spelled-with-a-U, Turrble!

You should not attend either of these schools anywhere close to sticker. This isn't TLS elitism, this is reality from a current law student. The market out there for permanent legal employment is way worse than anything any 0L can imagine.

If I had a gun to my head I'd go to Seattle. Chicago is beyond saturated and my friends at DePaul are crying themselves to sleep as basically 19 other schools outplace them for jobs.

Seattle is no better. If you're not top 25% at UW or T14 with ties you're doomed here.

OP, please retake.
