I'm not a flame. My LSAT and GPA are within the 25/75 percentile for Chicago.
I just got off the WL today, and that's why I'm asking.

Unless you have loads of undergrad debt (meaning >100k), Chicago is TCR.

This is a trick question--right ?

Obviously I know Chicago is a better school but is 200k+ in debt justifiable when I can spend 100K at Emory?
Also, what is a TCR? lol I have no idea.

If you have that much undergrad debt, your chances of being able to pay it back from Emory are slight.
Chicago: almost guarantees you a big law job.
Emory: gives you perhaps a 1/5 chance at a big law job.
That difference would be worth A LOT more than $75k to me.

The correct answer is Chicago.

Yeah, but I think there has to be an absolute upper bounds as to how much debt you'll take on, just on the off chance that you get OCIpwned/No-offered/Deweyed (not entirely unlikely, even at Chicago - people do strike out). 100k undergrad debt + 200k Chi debt is above that limit (for me at least). Any less than that, though, and I say go Chicago without reservation.

You have nothing in the middle of those......
No Stanford?
No VMTC for free?....

That's fair, but then $100k undergrad + $125 Emory debt would have to be above that limit also - there has to be a lower limit for worse schools. So the two options would be Chicago or don't go.

Loan paranoia makes 0L's pick short term debt over long term degree value. You'd be crazy to take Emory over UChi full price even if Emory was free.

OP: You're considering law schools that operate in different worlds. Chicago competes with Harvard & Yale.
In my view, its like deciding between the University of Montana & the University of Miami for one determined to practice in Bozeman. Not even close. Not even debatable.
P.S. If you want proof, then ask Chicago to match Emory's offer. When the laughing stops, you should already be through your first semester. And I like Emory & love Atlanta.
