Have you negotiated with UVA and Cornell using the Georgetown scholarship?

I'd personally place UVA and Cornell above Georgetown if all things were equal...That said, all things are not equal and Georgetown with 100k sounds like a pretty good choice. Maybe consider Cornell if you're that set on NYC, but I don't think Cornell is 70k (minus cost of living differences of course) better than Georgetown.

Georgetown. But could see the case for Cornell or UVA (keep in mind UVA COA is almost $10k cheaper than Cornell)

Strange how this poll ended up so differently than mine did here:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=183435

Perhaps everybody voting Michigan would have went Gtown? But then that's not what the comments look like.

It's like with public polls: the way you phrase the question can have an impact on the response.

Better to just list scholarships than COA.

The difference in response is staggering.

Congratulations on the mad money from Gtown. As somebody with similar stats, but much less scholarship money, I'm curious how you faired so well. Care to comment?

That's not true at all. OP, what is the total COA at each one? I could see choosing Cornell (or UVA) here if the COA is close enough.

Be persistent with Cornell and UVA. Money frees up every day. Don't give up. If you really prefer Cornell or UVA to Gtown it might be worth double depositing so you can continue to negotiate

Thanks for all the responses! Since Cornell is still unwilling to budge on my financial package, I will most likely going to be choosing GULC. The COA are all very similar:

Virginia: $71,800
GULC: $73,500
Cornell: $74,680

What? How is that possible?

Is that for a year? I'm guessing that's per year.

Maybe I wasn't clear: OP, I was asking what the total COA was at each school for you (taking scholarships into account).

ETA: I did it myself

UVA: $215,400
GULC: $120,500
Cornell: $194,040

Looking at those numbers I'd go GULC.

Ah gotcha sorry guys, that was the total COA per year (estimated by the schools). My COA would be:

Virginia: $71,800 ($215,400 over three years)
GULC: $40,166 ($120,500 over three years)
Cornell $64,680 ($194,404 over three years)

I also have a decent amount of undergraduate debt, and am really not looking to go around $250,000 to attend Cornell (or even higher at Virginia). I have done three rounds of negotiation with Cornell but they have come back empty every time. Does anyone have any tips for any new approaches? I have no new offers (just the GULC scholly) or acceptances to use as leverage, and have expressed my strong interest in attending several times by email and phone.

I am a bit averse to attending Georgetown just because of its large class size and its reputation for placing less students in NYC biglaw than Cornell (granted, much of that is probably self-selection). But I have a hard time justifying an extra $70k in debt (over three years) for Cornell.
This is the right sentiment. Setting aside self-selection (which we can't know), there's no way that Cornell is worth over 70k+interest more than GULC, even for NYC. I understand why you want Cornell, but unless they fork over more money (which it doesn't seem like they're willing to do) I think the best option is GULC here.

Dear God, take the money. GULC's class size is not so daunting when you get here (I honestly have never felt affected by it from an academic perspective), and if you do well enough you're not going to have trouble getting a job in NYC if you so desire. We place perfectly fine there. And there *is* plenty of self-selection to go to DC.

Unless Cornell forks over money, I really don't see any reason to go there over GULC.

OP, I'm making a similar decision with similar offers, and if I had 60k in ugrad debt, I would take GULC.
