UMinn (35k) vs UChicago (sticker)

Just got in off the waitlist at Chicago, so I haven't heard about money, but I'm not hopeful. I want to practice in the Midwest, but I'm not particular about the state, so either will do on that front. I'm interested in litigation work, maybe IP, not sold on big law. I visited Minnesota and enjoyed it- I can see myself being happy there. I haven't had a chance to visit UChicago yet. Your input is appreciated!

Minnesota has done very poorly in the recession: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 2#p5370502 (scroll down to Minnesota).

If you're really committed to the Midwest, it's Yale, Harvard, and Chicago. I doubt that the ordering I mentioned it in is valid, Chicago is an extremely valuable degree. Minnesota's degree will be harder to carry to other Midwest states, though it is possible. I would pick Chicago, assuming that 35K/year is not enough to cover full tuition. Also consider extraneous costs to tuition as well, and then compare it to Cost of Attendance to Chicago.

Chicago. The recession has totally pwned UMN and Chicago kicks ass.

Agreed with everyone. Chicago.

This being said, I'm surprised you don't have Duke, Michigan, or Northwestern with money.

Yeah, no t14s other than Chicago. I wasn't the smartest in how I chose where to apply.

Then go to Chicago. It's an incredible option. I would very much regret going to Minnesota if I had the option of uchi.

Minnesota could leave you jobless. Chicago will get you Minnesota with ties, and any other midlaw Midwest city regardless of grades if you interview okay

Chicago has no problem getting grads to MN when they want to go. MN has trouble getting people to Chicago. Might regret being jobless from MN even relatively debt free.
