Uk law vs Memphis
I've been accepted to Kentucky but with no money. While out of state at UK is going to hurt I have the money to be debt free at graduation. Meanwhile, I am from Memphis with ties to this area. The university of memphis places reasonably well in the area but i know Kentucky would have at least some recognition in other neighboring states. Tuition and expense would be about 60k less at Memphis. Any suggestions?

Kentucky isn't a good enough school to justify the cost.
Did you apply to UT-K?

Alas, wait listed at UTK. UK is expensive but wouldn't a life time of future earnings be worth the money? But are you saying memphis would be just as good or even a better choice given my circumstance?

Well, to be honest, I think they're both not very good options. Grads coming out of Kentucky aren't exactly making it rain. At least Memphis is cheaper and you have ties there.Loki13 wrote:Alas, wait listed at UTK. UK is expensive but wouldn't a life time of future earnings be worth the money? If you really want to go to school I'd advise retaking, or really fighting off the UT-K waitlist.

It seems like you have the right mentality, honestly. Since your debt would be non-existant, it gives you a ton of other options. If you're OK with working a legal job for 40-60K a year, that's fine. The reality is that since there are 45,000 law grads competing for 28,000 jobs each year, basically half of them won't ever find work as lawyers. Most of these come from schools in the lower range.Loki13 wrote:Thanks dude, i'vebeen having a hard time being realistic with myself.
Memphis isn't a terrible option if you're connected, don't mind staying, and willing to network. The edge UK would give you in job prospects wouldn't be worth an additional 60K.
Hope all this is helpful.

I agree with tfleming. Memphis with no debt as a Memphis native isn't a bad call, but I think a retake for a better school (even like a UT-K) would be worth it.
