Smooth Sail, I'll wade into this discussion. First, I want to say thank you for your service. If not for the sacrifices you and our other military members have made we would not be where we are. That said, I'm not sure that the schools you currently have as options allow for a very easy transition towards your lifelong dream. I'm by no means saying it's impossible, but just significantly more difficult coming from a school that isn't as highly regarded in the field you are looking.

Of your choices, I would choose Texas Tech. It seems to do pretty well in Texas and you will have the GI Bill to fall back on if the scholarship were lost.

Having worked with the VA on numerous cases (I worked in disability law) I know it can be quite difficult to get what you need from them. Is there any way possible they could provide a detailed description of what accommodations you would need to level the playing field for an LSAT? I don't know if that would mean indefinite bathroom breaks and or an indefinite time between the sections, only you know what would make you comfortable for the duration of the test. I do know from the many friends I have had go through law school that some of the tests can be quite grueling and last just as long as the LSAT (with, comparatively, just as much riding on the result).

Best of luck in whatever decision you make.

Good luck getting into entertainment law, especially from any of these schools. Might want to do more research on your career goals.

Thank you for your insight and recommendation, abbottsbar.

My physicians (spine, gastrointestinal, and ortho) all filled out evaluations for LSAC and added additional documentation. They all requested a few accommodations each; however, LSAC only provided the two: Private room so I don't disturb other test takers, and the stopwatch to stop my time for breaks. No extra time even though it was requested by three physicians in a lengthy evaluation packet. At this point of my life, I just want to be an attorney. I used to be that unstoppable 275 lbs machine who played football for fifteen years, and served proudly in the Marine Corps. Now, I'm the same guy only with a few broken parts and weigh a lot less. :)

I have spoken to the schools who have accepted me, and they all stated they will provide accommodations, as they currently do for disabled students, far better than LSAC. It was nice to hear schools doing their part to help people in my shoes.

Another vote for Texas Tech.

Respectfully,

Smooth Sail

No problem Smooth Sail. I certainly admire your tenacity and drive.

I don't know why everyone is telling you Texas Tech. Hastings for sure if you can get off the waitlist.

Will the Texas Tech recommendations change if I were admitted to BYU or Utah?

What about Arizona and Hastings if I were admitted from the wait list?

My GI Bill would cover the full cost of all four schools.

Are you LDS? If not, Provo might be a little rough.

I think BYU or Hastings would be a better choice, but still keep in might that nabbing solid firm work from any of these schools is still a bit of a longshot. You thought about doing JAG at all?

If you are down with living in Utah, they may be better options. Go to Arizona if your GI bill covers it. Its got 1 peer school in the entire state, rather than being the 5th best school in the state (Tech).

Something to consider would be that the GI bill is only for public law schools, right? Im not sure about Hastings, but BYU is def private and probably wouldnt be worth it to pay to go there when you could go to a public university for free.

FOR OTHERS: What separates the lead recommended Texas Tech from Tulsa, Syracuse, and McGeorge?

They are really close (AU/Hastings). I think your decision should come down to where you will be happiest living. Cali or AZ?

Tech/Tulsa are coin flips but i would give the edge slightly to tech because tech runs west TX and east NM. Plus Tech gives you a better shot at Dallas.

Syracuse is too far down the line in New york.

I dont know about McGeorge.

PS Thanks for sharing those numbers on the GI Bill. Thats good to know.

Yeah, dude it would really help if you decide where you want to live. Also, where do you have ties. Not "one time I visited there for a week and really liked it!" Real ties like where you're from, where you went to UG, ect.

Smooth Sail,

You are a great American. I admire your determination and service in combat. I am also a combat veteran but did not receive any physical wounds, but I have friends for life that have been wounded. I wish you the best.

Update for all who helped me make my decision.

Not only was the personal note on my acceptance letter a huge plus with the full ride scholarship, but Texas Tech continues to be one of the top military friendly schools in America. They make me feel right at home.

Ahh yes, the personal note gave me a fuzzy feeling too. They certainly care. :D

Congrats on making your decision. Good luck!!
