W&L vs. UIUC

Postby LSD22 » Mon Mar 19, 2012 8:24 pm

I've pretty much narrowed my selection down to these two schools and am trying to make up my mind. Have pretty similar scholarship offers from both. The rankings have boasted W&L up to #24 and UIUC down to #35 so I'm tempted to go to the higher ranked. I visited Lexington in February for ASW and really enjoyed my visit. Am headed to UIUC for ASD on March 30th so might have a better idea then. Does anyone have any input???

If they are the same price then I would vote for whichever region you have stronger ties to. They are peers in the sense that they are decent regional schools. Ignore the rankings.

Yeah this. Don't pick based on ranking, this is stupid. Where are you from?

From the Pacific Northwest, no regional ties to either location. Wanting to attend a good school with decent job prospects. Not necessarily looking to go "Big Law." I know that W&L isn't really known for Big Law anyhow.

Total cost of attendance and debt you will take at each?

Also want to know this.

OP, where are UW and L&C in this equation?

These schools are too expensive considering job prospects and also that they are random ass regional schools in places you're not from. Retake or don't go.

Not particularly interested in staying in the PNW nor do I plan to retake. I've discovered unless your t14 regional is pretty much the case. I applied to 22 schools was accepted to 13, rejected by 3 and WL at 4 which include (Cornell, Emory, WUSL and UW).

Cardozo is in NYC, with COA that will end up making the overall average more. Look at the least bias information NLJ 250 for the past 5 years + where students go from each schools, U of I mostly Chicago, W&L I would guess DC. and make a decision what city you rather end up at, and the chances that you might actually get one of those jobs.

This would still leave you w/ more than $120k in debt from Cardozo. Terrible idea. If you absolutely must go, and if you have absolutely no preference for region, I'd choose the cheapest option (except for Cardozo). But for the love of God, don't judge schools by rank.
